Had a very nice walk to the second nearest pub and back this evening. Met up there with Mrs Tickle who was returning from her friend's house. You will find this hard to believe, but I didn't have a drink - just sat and watched Mrs T drinking her glass of absurdly expensive Merlot, which cost more than twice as much as a bottle of the "Nice Drop of..." Merlot I'm drinking now. Not that I'm planning to drink the whole bottle. The reason for my abstention at the pub was the lack of ale - what a terrible place is a pub with no beer. Anyway, it's a lovely crisp evening here and on the way home we saw the resplendent half-moon rising ahead of us, which was reward enough. It put me in mind of Donovan's "Voyage of the Moon". If you speak of Asda's Nice Drop...Tickle, I can recommend the Trebbiano and the Chardonnay. The reds though...😐 They sell a really nice Rioja 'Espartero' - the joven and the reserva - both good and not wildly expensive. |
