very autumnal but off they go this weekend. Are the leaves from your tree? Reminds me of an Alan Bennett monologue with Thora Hird. She longs to put a sign on her gate "These are not my leaves" π He is 90 this year - I have just bought his latest book - it's about Oldies π

It did feel a bit like the start of a Steven King here, this morning . Cleared a bit now. Drama over, re the outside tap. I found the cover and now it's safely covered for the winter. I agree about dog owners who don't know how to treat, train or handle dogs. Dogs are wonderful, noble, intelligent and loyal creatures. Often their owners are idiots or too lazy to train their dogs. People don't always pick up the dog poo and that drives me crazy. I have been brought up with with dogs and owned dogs all of my life. My children all have dogs - we are a doggy family. A trained dog is a delight and always welcome in friends' homes. An untrained dog is a nightmare in the end. I have never had a bad dog, they have all been wonderful companions. Owners, however, are another story. I'm not a violent person ,but I would torture people who abuse sweet ,trusting animals. Here endeth the lesson.

Re dogs. Have you noticed all Cockerpoos are completely barmy? My neighbour has one - it's been almost impossible to train.

Fog all clear here now, it was like a scene from THE FOG film. Talking about dogs, I agree some people shouldn't have dogs If they can't pick up their dogs poo. On that subject, when I see blind people walking with a dog, how do they know where the dog muck is to pick it up?

I did..and it was cheaper of course, I was a bit opposed to Kindles a while back but I have got used to it and of course, you're not left with loads of books which not even charity shops want. I have got a Paperwhite - it's nice and light but aside from turning the page, I still can't navigate round it easily. Bob's got the old one, with colour - heavy, but SO easy to use.

Julia had a Kindle years ago. I made all the dinosaur noises about good old books. Now I can't hold a book without it wobbling , I have a stand for my kindle and I'm a convert.

Didnβt ask for, or want them, in the first place. p.s., love Alan Bennett.

We have much the same, we are surrounded by huge oak trees and you can imagine what our drive and patio are like just now. I had a man here today tidying up outside thankfully. But maybe the same time tomorrow it will look the same.

Leave the leaves alone, I say - except perhaps the ones in the guttering.
It has been a gruelling day in the land of living it up. On the plus side, my ancient laptop is working a bit better now I've rebooted it - I spent a significant part of the previous 2 days yelling at it and getting very grumpy. Mind you, I did find time yesterday, when the sunshine was dazzling, to wander round the uni campus and take a couple of hundred photos. This morning we walked down to the cinema to see "Paddington in Peru" and thence, after a coffee, we took a bus into Reading and went to look at dining furniture - the cheap furniture we bought nearly 40 years ago is getting a bit past it. Saw some nice stuff in Furniture Village, but then came home and spent a couple of hours or more comparing it with the furniture we saw on a website last week. Mrs Tickle and I used to think we were indecisive, but we're not so sure now. However, we finally took the plunge and ordered a table and some chairs online for delivery in early December.

Dreadful incident with the dog in the daytime π Agree. Totally inadequate owner. Had you seriously considered The Camino? We have holidayed on that northern coast of Spain so came across doughty walkers all the time and often exchanged a few words with them as we got back in our car π€£ Love the allusion there. The Camino is a nice idea - I wouldn't mind finding that free wine tap - but I think I'm too decrepit now: a day climbing the bluffs in Salzburg last June pushed me to my limits. A holiday on that northern coast in Spain sounds good: an acquaintance of mine spent some time in the Asturias region earlier this year and posted loads of photos on Facebook - it looked fantastic.
