The boot does help because it holds the foot securely in one position. I must have been overdoing it lately. I'm very disappointed it's not fixed yet. I think it maybe needs more time. Maybe you need a pair of these Althea, mens are a slightly wider fit.

Yesterday wasn't the best of days. It got off to a bad start with the news of Trump's victory in the presidential election, although that looked on the cards before I drifted off to sleep. The weather was dank and dismal, but forecast to lighten up, so we decided to stick with our plan of going to the Warburg nature reserve, near Bix Bottom. Over 900 species of mushroom have been reported there, but we saw hardly any. The trees were clad in colourful autumn garb but looked rather sombre in the gloom - not very photogenic. We lost each other for over an hour at one point and there was no phone signal. Got stuck in a massive queue of traffic going through Sonning on the way home and didn't get back till gone 5. Had a quick cuppa and then went to the food share. Got there slightly earlier than usual, but there was virtually nothing left. Stopped off at the pub on our way back to cheer ourselves up and then had a long chat with Grace-2, so it wasn't all bad. Just about to go to the cinema now. From the man who says "Oh, I don't do much.." 😅 Btw, what is a Food Share? I think what I said was I don't live it up, i.e. do exciting things - like going to the races and winning 40-odd quid. I think the only time I've been to the races was when my Dad took me to Nottingham races when I was a lad, but all I can remember - and that very hazily - is the Opal Fruits. That must have been very soon after they were introduced. SHARE Wokingham is a locally founded food sharing charity with around 20 sites in Wokingham and surrounding areas, one of which is a 10 minute walk from us. It redistributes food from local supermarkets and food suppliers that would otherwise go to waste. Its primary aim is to help people who are struggling, but the secondary aim is to help avoid food waste, so we tend to go along towards the end of the session to see what's left: sometime there's a lot, last night there was virtually nothing. There is almost invariably a lot of bread, which is a pity, to be honest, because you can't tell by looking what's in it - and I am one of those who likes to avoid bread with a carbohydrate/fibre ratio greater than 5. On our way there yesterday it suddenly and unaccountably started snowing leaves. There was scarcely a breath of wind, so it seemed rather odd.

Morning all: A tad cooler this morning but not too chilly. At least there's no frost about for now.

Food share sounds like a good idea - at least the stuff isn't being dumped. Presumably anyone can go there.
Actually my cousin is a volunteer in such a venture - she gets annoyed at those who 'work' the thing. A chap goes in, gets everything on offer, goes outside and puts it in the boot of his car, then his wife gets out, goes in and does the same. You always get people like that.
I've a friend who has for years been the manager of a charity shop. She tells me you have to be very careful who volunteers; there are somewho 'pocket' items they either like, or are high-end, and even sell them on eBay.
In fact, she told me, be sceptical of charity shops where you never see expensive items on sale. They are probably hiving them off. Very sad. It's just another example showing some people are completely unscrupulous and just plain greedy at the expense of the disadvantaged.

It's sad that there are greedy grasping people in the world who don't care about the really disadvantaged in society. They started a food bank in a town near here and the chap who runs it had one lad who turned up each week and went home with four full bags of food. He said he had 4 children to feed and his wife was ill. my friend, who runs it , saw this lad in the supermarket with a trolley full of booze . He just went over to him and said quietly. "We won't be seeing you next week." Now local priests and vicars have to recommend you to qualify for going to the food bank. It's a different world from the one I grew up in. Of course, I grew up in the country and people always helped each other out there.

Went for a mooch this morning to prolong my fast, which I've now broken. It's overcast and a bit chilly - I'm beginning to think the sun has gone into hibernation. There was a hint of a breeze, but that seems to have subsided now. At our food share it's one basket per person, with limits on some individual items, so it would be quite in order for Mrs Tickle and I to take a basket each if we wanted to - but there's no telling how many pastries Mrs T would bring back if we did. I checked the guidelines yesterday and they are that's it ok, after filling a basket, to go back at the end of the session and take anything that's left. The BBC website is still forecasting sunny spells this afternoon, but the Met Office demurs. We'll be going swimming soon, anyway.

I often put things in the food bank and wonder what type of people use the items. I don't mind if they are genuinely struggling financially but have heard like above of people taking advantage when they clearly have no need to use the food bank. Now and then we have a clear out of the cupboards, that's when I take them.

I think most foodbanks, if not all, operate a referral system, so in theory it is only people who are struggling that can access them.

We know 😒 Yes, a Facebook friend of mine mentioned that expression the other day. The BBC is forecasting sunshine next week, but the sunny spells they forecast for this afternoon failed to materialise, so it may be a case of jam tomorrow. In addition to being gloomy, this weather seems to be having an adverse effect on my wireless reception.

I'm having a few problems with my favourite station on DAB radio. I love the oldies played on BOOM radio but reception is sort of on and off these past few days, obviously it must be to do with the weather.

I listened to Boom this evening. 😁👍 Yes, reception has been unreliable on all stations these past few days
