Hi, I am putting this here because it is not news or politics and it might help you or someone you know.
Pension credit is a means tested top up benefit, this puts people off but many are not aware of the applicable amounts (what the government says you need per week)
A single person of state pension age without any health problems needs £218.15 per week.
A single person of state pension age who gets middle rate or high rate of care of DLA component / any rate of PIP daily living allowance/ attendance allowance and lives alone with no one claiming carers allowance needs £299.65/week.
If your income is below that then you may be due Pension credit.
To work out your income you need to calculate your WEEKLY income. State pension is typically paid 4 weekly so divide the amount you get by 4 and that’s your weekly amount.
If you have a works pension take that monthly figure, multiply it by 12 and divide that by 52, again this gives you your weekly private pension amount.
If you have an annuity divide the total by 52 to get the weekly amount.
Next do you have savings OVER £10,000? If yes then you are treated as having £1 income per week for every £500 over the £10k
Other incomes are stocks, shares, unit trusts, 2nd homes, property abroad, PEPS/ISAS/Income bonds, premium bonds, capital bonds. Add up the value of these and ignore them if the total is below £10k.
Now add up the weekly state pension + weekly works pension + tariff income from savings.
If these are less than the applicable amount of either £218.15 or £299.65 for single people you’ll be due guaranteed pension credit.
Couples need £332.95 / week if both are healthy, if one is unwell and is in receipt of attendance allowance then the partner should be eligible for underlying entitlement to carers allowance meaning their applicable amount rises to £378.55/week
If both are on attendance allowance or the care components or DLA/PIP then they both claim carers allowance & get 2 carers premiums AND 2 severe disability premiums added to their applicable amounts which means they now need £587.15/week.
Bear in mind that attendance allowance/DLA/PIP of either £72.65 £108.55 per week is not counted as income.
We should be trying to get everyone to get a benefit check as the amount the government says you need to live on per week is either
£218.15
£299.65
£332.95
£378.55
Or £587.15 depending on your own situation
Attendance Allowance is paid to practically every pensioner over 80 who applies as long as they admit they aren’t as Mobile as they were when they were 60.
Even without pension credit many are due council tax reduction or housing benefit but they don’t claim these either,
The power companies cannot cut off the power of anyone with health problems so folk should burn the fuel and the companies can get any money back after they have died. Power companies also have grants you can apply for.
A person who sold their house and has £48k in savings but qualified for guaranteed pension credit because they were awarded attendance allowance and the state pension and works pension and tariff income total less than £299.65 per week.
Please don't be put off by the online form. It is one of those where if Question 26 is not applicable to you then you move on to Question 103 etc. There are not 243 questions that everyone needs to fill in. If you prefer to do this over the phone, there is a dedicated phone line for Pension Credit Applications. The govt do not expect people with no IT skills to do this. It might take some time to get through, but it you have your financial info ready it shouldn't take more than 40 minutes to complete.
Please pass this on to anyone you know who might benefit. Make sure you get what you are entitled to.

I went to the medical centre for my blood tests this morning. I got absolutely soaked to my skin. I had to get changed when I got back. I have a moat round my garden after all the rain and thunder.

That is very informative Hild, thanks for posting it. No problem, Ron. There is a lot of misinformation about what people are entitled to and if both halves of a couple are over 80, then Attendance Allowance alone is going to give you more than the Winter Fuel Allowance ever did e.g. possibly another £108 a week. There will be a Welfare Rights office somewhere near everyone and they can ensure you are getting everything you're entitled to. Owning your own home has nothing to do with non-means tested benefits and doesn't factor in the Winter Fuel Allowance it is all about how much disposable income you have. You might be living in a house worth £750,000 but that doesn't mean your income is in that bracket. If anyone wants to check, for themselves or anyone they know, get in touch with Welfare Rights, they really know their stuff. CAB also do this.
