Another day of doing nothing much. Thought about driving to Thames Valley Park to see if the river had burst its banks, but the weather wasn't at all enticing: grey, cold and rather breezy. Then all of a sudden, whilst my back was turned, the clouds rolled away - just as the sun was disappearing. It's still clear now, so I suspect it'll be chilly tonight.
Mrs Tickle wanted to do a big shop as her discount card expires at the end of the month and the replacement still hasn't arrived. Struck me as unnecessary, but gave me an excuse to get 6 bottles of wine and save 25%, so I bought some Rioja.
Just been trying to sign up for Best Western rewards prior to booking in at one of their hotels. Thought I'd done so, but their website won't let me log in. I'll try again in the morning, but they're in danger of losing my custom - not that they'll notice.
Here's hoping Ron and Rikii have better days tomorrow - by which I mean Thursday.

Not really Toots I've just given up and didn't do the trees. I'm sitting with a cuppa watching Portrait Artist of the Year instead. My knee was giving me too much gip. I'll get up early to whip the cream and finish up. Everything is done up to that point and I haven't made anything that needs a serious level of decorating. Pear Crumble Cake, Lemon Cake, Chocolate Orange Cake, Jam Sponge with icing and sprinkles. In the morning I'll finish the pavlova and Black Forest thing - I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a gateau. Lordy no, Cake will do. Forgot there's a cherry and Almond loaf. I stand by what I said - awesome. Pear crumble cake sounds fab, the others I know are great. I know how long it takes to do one cake you’ve done seven. Not only that but it’s a lot of ingredients.

Riki must be lying low... Well maris, it certainly hit the fan this morning, I went for my dressing change on my scalp and all was well no more visits at dermatology for now. However..... Earlier I received a call from the district nurse, along with the chat she asked me if I had received a discharge letter and medication, I hadn't received either, so I popped back into the urology department and ended up argument with a person behind the desk as she said I was discharged and tried to pack me of, I argued I had not had a discharge letter or my due medication and that they were negligent of not following the correct procedure and told her ask her to make me another appointment today, then I waited four hours to see a doctor as my catheter bag was still filling with blood, he stated the cause of the bleed was due to a swollen prostate was the cause of the bleeding and the medication would help to remove the swelling, now I will have to contact my doctor for some anti spasm tablets, never a dull moment here says mr knakard of Quinton. NB. I never got back home till 6pm. Er, how can you be discharged with a catheter in situ and an enlarged prostate? Not a happy time for you Rik. Assuming the swelling subsided (no surgery?) will the catheter be removed? Those bloody things can be an endless source of discomfort, bleeding not to mention infection.

Glad you stood up for yourself Riki. People delete stuff by accident then the receptionist has to try and make sense of it all. When in doubt, blame the computer or Head Office. I hope they manage to sort things out.
From its beginnings, the NHS resembled a bumblebee in that it was impossible scientifically that it could fly, but nobody told the bumblebee. Now it has more to carry than ever and it's old, but it keeps on flying somehow.

Only a slight frost here this morning and it's nearly all gone now. Still quite misty, but there is hazy sunshine. Quite pleasant, really.
Good to see Ron and Rikii up and about.
I remember having cortisone injections in my knee. I was surprised how painless they were and they did seem to help.

I'm pleased to see that Caro has joined us and hope she livens things up on the Old Sport thread.

Maris, my cleaning lady uses all of her own products. She brings a big case full of stuff. The only thing of mine she uses is my steam mop. When she uses my hoover, she bangs into all the furniture. I don't like to mention it, because she is so helpful and will tackle anything. It is absolutely freezing here today. The frost has mostly gone, but taking Leo out was a real effort. We met a mum with two small children who were thrilled with Leo. They petted him and of course, he loved all the attention. I showed them how to approach a dog you don't know, just in case they weren't friendly. The little boy was so sweet and more or less told me his life story. Ah, what a magic age for children (about 6 and 7) I think.

Crumble Cake is really easy. Make a sponge and before baking add a layer of Crumble to the top. Not too much to make it heavy. You can do one Cake or two smaller tins, or if you want 12 smaller cakes. Once cooked and cooled fill with a layer of fruit and cream or thick cold custard. Goes down a treat and people think you did something clever but it's really easy and can be frozen by the slice to make it last longer. Plus no need to decorate the top.

I Had a telephone interview with the GP earlier. He's given me antibiotics and another inhaler. He said the result of my test and examination
reveals a mild form of Bronchial Pneumonia. Just rest with plenty of fluids and if it doesn't improve withing 7 days to get back in touch with him. No wonder I've been gasping for breath and feeling shattered all the time.

Sorry to hear that, Ron. I hope it clears up quickly. Went for a stroll by the Thames this afternoon, but not along the towpath - I'd have needed waders for that. All that west country water has found its way here. You may just be able to make out the river behind the trees that are reflected in the floodwater.

I seem to get more clumsy with every passing day. I blame Dupuytren's contracture, but it may just be old age. Bought a few picture frames from Oxfam this afternoon in which to put some of my arty farty photos, and whilst washing the glazing from one of them I managed to cut my thumb. Still, at least I can complete the rhyme now When the dog bites, when the wasp stings, When you gash your thumb. . . Try to remember your favourite things And then you won't feel so glum.
