I met an artist friend of mine and we went to the Royal Academy a couple of weeks back. Apart from the Summer Exhibition we went in to see the RA students show. This was one work...a room with this perimeter of tiles, and randomly nailed to them, pastry cases. I didn't know what to say. Do you?

Been in Oxford for a couple of days, principally to see the Raphael drawings at The Ashmolean. Beautiful, just beautiful...declared a Master at age 17 !

I know art has to progress, but I think some of these young artists are just taking the mickey out of art now. I'm not even keen on Damien Hirst, even though he is very creative.

All he is is rich! Funny because when we looked at the works at the Royal Academy of their students at the end of their study, they would display the things of which they were most proud. My first thought was "...and you chose THAT???" I'd love to bring back Raphael and get him to take a look...😄

^^^ Is that by that Danish artist, whose name I can't remember... Hammershei He has one in the National Gallery now. 😊 I went to a lecture on him and I had not long read Music and Silence (set in 17th century Copenhagen) by Rose Tremain. Excellent. And as I was listening to him I started thinking "Mmm..maybe we should go there" He finished his talk by saying "..and Copenhagen was one of the dullest places I have ever been to. I planned to stay five and came home after two..." We haven't been! Very atmospheric paintings though, which really capture its watery light.

I'm not familiar with this artist, but I love this. I do wonder what happened to the woman's legs though.

I rather like the drab diffused light and the calmness of the painting. I think he painted out her legs though.
