I would vote we stay as one. So would I Goldelox and the reasons are too long and complex for either the time I have available or for my typing skills. A minority, 45% of the people who voted, (which was only I think 75% of the electorate, making the actual number who voted around 33% of people eligible to vote) thought devolution was a good idea. Therefore 77% of the people either voted against or did not really give a toss one way or another. The disgruntled, lead by Sturgeon and Salmond should get over it and accept that they lost, and democracy is the way this sort of thing works in the UK. But if the minority keep banging on that its 'snot fair' then I think a fairly substantial proportion of the English will have had enough and tell 'em to piss off.

With regards to your last sentence jonjel, I think you are probably right. Not for the reason you stated but because many have a certain amount of animosity towards Scotland - don't ask me why because I don't know the answer to that one. I could give you examples but I doubt if you would believe them so I won't bother. I only stopped for a breather from curtain making!

No politician can make you fly the flag if you don't want to! The groundswell is amazing and it is the people of Scotland that will untimately make the decision. I am married to an Englishman, very happily for 43 years!) he has never felt anything but welcome when we are north of the border. I lived and worked in England all my working life and can say the same. The animosity was whipped up by the 'Better Together' campaigners, of that I have no doubt. It was sad to see it and it was totally unecessary. Truth was all that was desired, lies are what we got. The 'Vow' has not been met - I for one didn't believe it would be. Tell the people one thing before the referendum and then renege on it afterwards. It is the truth and quite frankly another referndum should be called on that issue alone. a) I feel like I have no option but to fight for my vote to be counted (55%) as its being totally disregarded by the politicians of Scotland. Once in a generation vote? My arse!
b) The groundswell was not amazing to live in, in Edinburgh and all over Scotland the Yes and No campaigns were fighting hard to be heard, but as you well know the Yes lot shouted out in debates, shouted down politicians, threw eggs at party leaders trying to get their point across. That is not amazing, that is harassment and violent. My husband who campaigned for the No's was told as he entered a block of flats "Don't go in there, you'll be murdered!" by a couple of thugs wearing Yes stickers and waving them. On hearing this when he got home, I begged him not to go out again. I'm proud to say he wasn't going to let in his words, 'Nationalist shites' stop him. He has been a proud Scot for all his days.
c) But the biggest issue I have with what you've written above is that Better Together whipped up the animosity. The animosity was plain to see if you lived here and it wasn't the BT dishing it out.
Do you know a restuarant in Stockbridge called Rollo? I have just been alerted to the abuse that has been spewed out because the owner made a comment re Independence. Trip Adviser was the source - she wasn't siding one way or the other but the Unionist have attacked beyond belief. All this has done is make people want to go to her restuarant - back firing again. That was just to show that it is still going on, but not all one way.

I don't know the restaurant, and doubt if anyone here 'knows' it but if you can post a link to the news story you have read then we can form an opinion.

The post was directed to Norty who knows Edinburgh.
The restuarant has had rave reviews until the comment from the owner re when Scotland could become independent, this was looking at the demographic of the ages of 'No' voters.
Anyway to cut a long story short, after the comment there were all these very poisonous reviews posted by people who wouldn't appear to know anything about the place at all. An example 'Ifound hairs in my soup' when they NEVER have soup on their menus.
I hasten to add that after three days of allowing these so called reviews on their site Tripadviser as had the good grace to remove them. The problem I have with all this nastiness on BOTH sides is that it is a totally unhealthy situation that was made worse by politicians adding fuel to the fire as it were.
I have many friends and family in Scotland - some for, some against independence - they haven't fallen out about it, they continue to discuss the matter and, as they say, life goes on!
It is the will of the people and the people voted no - this time around. The only thing I would add is that if Westminster reneges on the promises made to keep the union then Scotland should have the right to have another referendum. Even the Labour party and the LibDems have seen the light in this respect - not that they have many MPs to convince!

Neither side have come out of this smelling of roses certainly, which goes to show how divisive the referendum has been in Scotland. Here is the link to the article you mentioned. wingsoverscotland.com/a-sour-taste/I really don't want to argue, discuss, have the last word on this Independent Scotland issue anymore. What will be will be as you say, we are never going to agree on this subject, so I'm going to bow out of all independence talk. I expressed what it like for me and you have done likewise, fine....let's call it quits because I really think we are going around in circles and I'm dizzy.
