As for the rest of the budget - much of the extra money for the NHS will be used to fund higher salaries for doctors, so patients are unlikely to see a difference. I share Maris’ view that this is not a budget for economic growth. Does this Keynsian-style theory of using government money on social building projects really work? At least some forecasters seem to be saying the outcome will be a disappointing one. The first problem with this is the fluctuation in house prices and the cost of vacant building sites.

When I was found to have Gynecomastia I sat in a white gown in a corridor full of women, head down avoiding other faces. My GP had sent me to have a mammogram, I was ignorant of the fact that one in twenty men get this. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cdxv98p5vdwo

I am afraid there will be more pressure on greenfield sites, because brownfield ones are more expensive to develop, and that the government will pass legislation giving builders the green light to build in the countryside leaving old industrial/commercial plots undeveloped

Are you all feeling the same dread as me about the US election? I feel sorry for those citizens having to choose one of the other. Harris has a very annoying voice...thin and reedy and she does not have gravitas. And Trump, well... every day he says something more bizarre than he did the day before. Lord help us...

I'm doing my best to avoid coverage of the US election - it's too depressing. It's difficult to have gravitas with a voice like Kamala's, but I hope she is competent and gets the chance to prove it. I think she's fairly decent and relatively sane, which is more than can be said for Trump.
Unelectable ~ Brian Bilston
Unelectable, that's what you are It’s regrettable you’ve got this far Like a bad odour, lies cling to you The prison yard bell will ring for you Never before has someone been more … Unelectable in every way Incomprehensible in all that you say That's why I find it’s incredible To side with someone so reprehensible He’d mount an un-Congressional coup Unacceptable, that’s what you are As delectable as fresh catarrh That’s why I hope it’s still credible Most people find you quite contemptible And declare you’re unelectable, too

I see JFK Jnr has said that he is in talks with Trump to cut back on the number of vaccinations people in the US are offered. He is a big campaigner against vaccinations and says he has a deal with Trump to stop the 'straight jacket of vaccinations' and allow people to become naturally immune!!!!!!
Some are reporting that vaccinations will become a matter of choice and only available privately. This would obviously save a lot of state money, but it would also kill a lot of people - perhaps that's the aim.
Do you know anyone who is immune to diphtheria? Did anyone ever become naturally immune to Smallpox?
It gets more bonkers every day doesn't.

Biden ushered in Trump by not stepping down. Harris with zero gravitas and her reedy voice wouldn't engage anyone...politics aside. I recall a few years back there was a brilliant documentary/travelogue with Ed Balls travelling across the US after Trump was elected (first time round) He said something very wise: when voters don't go your way, don't moan politicians - just ask 'why?' That way you find out what's wrong with your country. Odd that on the world stage, we are quite isolated with our left wing government...my summation of that is that nobody wanted another Conservative government, but not necessarily a Labour one... given turnout etc. Ours was a protest election.

It always boils down to the economy and people wanting change. I couldn't understand why Harris went on about abortion rights in every speech - unless we just got the edited bits.
The US economy is not doing badly and immigration to the US was significantly down the last two years, but you wouldn't believe that if you listened to a Trump speech.
What the hell was Farage doing over there - has he ever been to Clacton since the election?
I feel worried for Ukraine and lord know what Trump will do about Gaza and Lebanon - he has been quoted as saying he can fix these in a week.
They repeated again today that they are going to look at saving money on vaccination and health screening programmes, because they should be up to individuals and not the state.

I'm afraid she centered on the female and black aspect too much. Her rallies were biased and exclusive for the male/white voters.
