Morning all: Make the most of the next few days, it's quite mild for late October. We will pay for it soon though no doubt.

It's a bright morning, 14 degrees and we have had a lovely walk. Had a good chat with my next door neighbours who have just returned after a month in Australia. They had ONE day of rain over there. I have found out that £480 for fitting and making two little gates is a fair price, so I hope Andy will do it for me after all. I didn't think I'd ever become one of those dithering old ladies who is out of touch with pricing.

The rain cleared slightly earlier than forecast on Saturday, which was all to the good, as the roads were dry before we set off for the Midlands. Had a near death experience on the M40, but reached Stowe Gardens in one piece. Lovely place for a picnic, but we didn't have long to look round - and no time to go round the school - so we must go back in summer. Arrived at our friends' new house in time for dinner. Spent much of Sunday, which was sunnier than expected after a wet morning, visiting old haunts with a baker's dozen of relatives. Monday, which was forecast to be sunny and mild, was overcast all day with a cold wind, but we managed a walk alongside the Trent. The sky eventually cleared just after sunset. Returned home today via my brother's house in Leicester, where our Swiss niece is staying with her 3 children. Talk about living it up!

Morning all: A tad foggy in places this morning and cooler too. But I think we're in for another dry and sunny day later.

Glasses: I've had it with Specsavers. Useless unusable glasses and several in my circle reported the same. It's the lenses...poor quality and inaccurate. So, I went to a top-reviewed optician locally and they were VERY good...I am pleased with the glasses - but 500 quid plus 🥺...not cheap. I spoke to a fellow parishioner on Sunday and he told me he got TWO pairs online (varifocals etc) for about 150 quid. I have never done this. Have you?

Yes I have, from Vision Express. I will never use Specsavers again too. Last time I went there I was in there for over an hour and a half. Never satisfied with the glasses at all. Since I've been with Vision Express had no problems, eye test done in 20 minutes and only about two to three days waiting for new glasses.

I get mine from here. www.glassesdirect.co.uk/eyeglassesBasically you measure your favourite glasses, overall width, nose bridge width, the overall length of the side arms and the with between your pupils or you can pick average, and finally your prescription for your left and right eyes to put in their relative boxes. Easy peasy innit?

I suppose Labour is a good chunk of that Althea. I presume you mean labour - it's too soon to blame Labour for everything, although some people are already doing that.

I was up before the sun this morning, which is very unusual for me, even at this time of year. I wanted to see if the bin men had bin, as I fear that I'd put the wheelie bin out without putting the rubbish in - something I managed to do a few weeks ago. They had, and my fear was thankfully unfounded. Couldn't help noticing that the sky was full of pretty pink vapour trails. It's much cloudier now, but the clouds are high and don't look too frightening.

I like the ones at £150 and they look and fit fine.

I forgot to put my bin and my recycling out last night, so I too was up very early. I took it out in my thick dressing gown, then went back to bed for an hour. Ooh, the luxury of sliding into a warm bed after being out in the cold. I get my glasses from a local optician and feel I get wonderful service, plus good quality glasses. The lenses are the most expensive part and they need to be right because we only get one set of eyes.
