We have been in Venice for a few days - it was 24Β° , though I am gratified to see it is now lashing down there as well π We probably wouldn't have gone - my brother and sister in law were insistent we accompany them, on account of my Italian (as if you need it there..) However, speaking the language does oil the wheels considerably and you get treated better as a result.
Ron: Your shopping trips amaze me. I did go into Dunelm though and bought one of those 'Teddy' throws for my pal whom I shall visit this week. She has Parkinson's and feels the cold something dreadful. I also bought three sharp stainless steel knives in there and annoyingly, they develop rust spots. Grr...
Althea: Leo's little coat. Sometimes we babysit our friends Yorkie, Rosie. She obligingly stands on her hind legs to allow you to get her coat onπ
Riki: Ooh, I do like that picture next to your boiler. Though the boiler itself is also very attractive π€£
Interesting reading Waiting's posts - he lives it up...but carefully π

I went to Washford Abbey yesterday for a Taize morning service. For those who don't know, they are short and simple songs that are repeated about 5 times or more. I couldn't fold up my garden chair to take it with me as there are no seats in the Refectory where we played. Someone lent me one, and I ordered two folding chairs for next year which I will have to collect this week. While it was under cover, the wind whistled through the huge gap where luxuries like windows weren't available. One of the violinists was shivering, despite the warning to wrap up warmly. I had a polo necked sweater, a gilet and a fleece, so while I wasn't exactly warm, I wasn't uncomfortably cold either. We really must do it in July when the rain will be warmer. People like it and it's a good variation on the Parish Church which had it built and predates it.
I'm still walking with a stick on other than paved surfaces. I feel it's a bit of a cheat, but a gent who was also attending insisted on carrying my viola, music case and stand from the car park and back. Claimed the exercise kept him warm.

HI maris,it is not a picture, it's a glazed tile. Even better. Where did you find it? I didn't, Mrs cut-out bought it from a charity shop for Β£2.50 twenty years ago.

It is stormy here with rain of biblical proportions. No chance of it clearing any time soon. I discovered that there was a third series of Broadchurch last week and I have binged it over the weekend. Just the stuff for a stormy weekend. I didn't used to like David Tennant, but he was very good in this series. Olivia Coleman was good too. Well, to pick them out isn't strictly fair. Everyone was excellent in their roles. A slightly harrowing, but twisty plot kept me guessing almost to the end.

What a drab miserable day it is. I can honestly say it hasn't stopped raining for the past 24 hours.

You have to be ok with David Mitchell though.. If you haven't seen it, I recommend Ripley on Netflix. Fab.

I just went for the RSV jab. The nurse undid the single dose box which had the syringe, the vaccine itself and other bits inside. I remarked "Ohh, this is a bit posh, isn't it?" She went on to tell me that each dose costs 150 quid, and 250 if it's purchased privately. I felt obliged to try to enjoy it...

My wife had the RSV jab a week ago and she wasn't too good for a few days. The nurse did say that at this point they weren't aware of any side effects but to report them to the surgery If she had any. She didn't bother and was ok after a few days. In our surgery they are only doing people of 75, I'm older than her but got to wait my turn.

That said, we do have something rather exciting lined up during October - a guided tour of our local recycling centre. That doesn't really compare with a few days in Venice, but it should be interesting.

Morning all: Well, here we are in another new month and not far to the big day now. The rain is supposed to abate and we might have a better day today.
