It is dry here, which is amazing in itself. I went to the dentist and the wind is sooo cold. Everyone was complaining to each other about how cold it is. I have my heating on almost all the time lately and I know I should wrap up warm instead. My bungalow is very draughty.

Just keep warm. Look up your council and see if they have grants for draught exclusion and if you qualify for their Warm Home scheme. If you don't feel like doing that, I know it can be intimidating, email your local Councillor.

Morning all: These weekends are spinning around so quickly. Got my usual M&S shop and the local farm. Terrible floods in the midlands, and more to come so they say.

According to my phone app, the temperature is due to drop sharply on Wednesday. I am lucky enough to be able to afford to keep warm, so I mustn't moan, but the bills are daunting. It's dry so far today, but again, rain is coming. I have bought a waxed jacket for Leo, but I will need to alter it a bit for him. I did buy him a quilted coat lined with fleece, but he had to put his front legs in the holes and it was impossible to get it on him. Believe me, I did try.

It was sunny in these parts today, particularly so in the morning, so Mrs T and I decided to go Hughenden Manor, where it was just about warm enough to partake of our picnic sitting outside by the lawn - as long as the sun stayed out. Dizzy wasn't at home but we eventually found him and some of his family at the church down the hill. There is no escape.
Given how sunny it had been, I was quite surprised to see the temp in the hall was a mere 16.4 - maybe we need to clean the windows. Had to put the heating on. We don't usually have the thermostat set much above 18 so our bills aren't particularly high.

Morning all: Good job I'm not going anywhere today, it's very cold. Just an ordinary chill out day for me.

I put my central heating on yesterday for the first time since it was last checked in June with its service, many of my neighbours have theirs in a cupboard over the staircase, they all have chimneys with their flues going through their roofs, being a terraced house I chose to have my boiler in the kitchen, I'm really glad I found one that's neat and very quiet, I can sit about 8 feet away from it and not know it is on, my boiler flue is only about 18 inches long. t t

That's good thinking Riki, the hot water has less to travel so that much quicker to heat up. I notice every year that the water in the shower is much hotter in the summer then much cooler in the winter.

Hi Ron , I have my boiler on the optimum setting which is 45 for hot water and 55 for the central heating.

Amber weather warning for all those in the west of England. www.bbc.co.uk/weatherI've got both my dehumidifiers running this morning, upstairs and down. (Brilliant at drying clothes too.)

Unexpectedly pleasant here this morning: light cloud, a few sunny spells and fairly mild. (Apparently there was a beautiful sunrise, but I was in the arms of Morpheus at that time.) As it was so pleasant we went for a mooch round the university campus and did a bit of mushroom spotting before stopping off for a beverage at the campus bar. It's a lovely spot, but Mrs T decreed that we shouldn't sit outside, as it suddenly got rather windy. The forecast rain still hasn't arrived, but I imagine it will fairly shortly.

Lashing of wind and rain from yesterday evening onwards. Still raining now and is expected to continue all day. Mr T cut the grass yesterday morning and I sprinkled the grass with its autumn feed so the rain came in handy after all.
