On Monday I had an X-ray on my back (I’ve already had an MRI) and a consultation with the consultant and I am now on his NHS - there is no way I could afford to have it done privately. Rods and screws were mentioned 😳. Still whatever it takes, walking round the shops is but a dream atm. Yes, sounds like a big procedure there. My hope is that you won't have to wait an age...have they given you a time frame? We asked the “piece of string” question and a guesstimate was 6-12 months. However I think if I hadn’t initiated this privately I could still be waiting for the MRI. So it will be what it will be and I’m fine with that, and who knows it may be quicker than that.

I have codeine, maris, and am prescribed huge amounts of it. I don't take much, then only in extremis. My children go mad, wanting me to take plenty. They don't understand how addictive it can be if used unwisely. I am just hoping that there is some bone in my foot that is strong enough to knit, but the gap of the fracture is very wide. I don't know what they can do about crumbly bones - not a lot I suspect. I will wait and see what happens when I go back to the hospital in September. ask for this althea. … New osteoporosis drug gets FDA approval | CNN Romosozumab (Evenity) is a new injectable drug that is used to treat osteoporosis. It works by speeding up bone-building cells (osteoblasts) and slowing down bone-breaking cells (osteoclasts) to prevent bone loss. Romosozumab is given monthly at a doctor's office for up to one year. It may be recommended for women who have already broken a bone due to osteoporosis and are at high risk of breaking another. Romosozumab is a biological medicine, which means it's made from proteins or other substances produced by the body. Other biological medicines that can treat osteoporosis include denosumab. These medicines may be recommended if you can't take other medicines, such as bisphosphonates, or if you have severe osteoporosis. Common side effects include muscle or joint pain, rashes, constipation, and cold-like symptoms. After stopping Romosozumab, you'll need to take a bone-stabilizing medication, such as a bisphosphonate, to protect the bone that's been built up. [Romosozumab (Evenity) is available on the NHS in England and Wales as a treatment for severe osteoporosis in post-menopausal women who are at high risk of fracture. It's recommended for people who have had a major osteoporotic fracture in the past 24 months. Romosozumab can be used as a first line treatment, regardless of previous treatment.] The benefits of bone-building drugs can disappear quickly after stopping treatment.]

Well I've woken up with a full blown cold. No idea where it came from. I've dragged myself into work but may pack it in early and go home to a hot toddy. I hope it goes as quick as it came because I'm going up to Edinburgh at the weekend for a couple of days.

I'm taking my son Iain to see/listen to the author Robert Harris. It's part of the Literacy Festival. He's not one of my favourite authors. The books my son has passed to me are a bit simplistic and the women in them are pretty naff stereotypes, but hey ho! The man's a bestselling author so he's doing ok. I will refrain from asking a question. I will just eat well and enjoy the scenery, but goodness it is expensive to stay in Edinburgh now.

I will look into that Rikii. Thanks for the info. I may be too old for an expensive new drug, or it may not suit me. There is a long list of stuff that I can't take - I'm one of those awkward people!
I hope the cold disappears fast, Hildie.

Not awkward. Just one of those disregarded when developing a drug for people who have only just been diagnosed with the condition. A lot of people are ignored when designing drugs for people with diseases of the rich.

Morning all: Very heavy rain all night long, I could hear it battering the windows. I'm hoping it dries up to put washing out on the line.

I've just nipped to Tesco and nearly landed on my bum. A gust of wind sent me reeling backwards. Trees down and recycling bins in the middle of the roads.

We had gale force winds last night and it blew my garden furniture all over. My neighbour, Nigel picked it up for me when he came to walk Leo. Such a kind lad and I'm wondering how on earth I can show my appreciation for all of his help. I don't want to put on his good nature, but he keeps offering help.
