Morning all: Not budging today, just got meals to do and a little cleaning and that's about it for the day. More washing to do of course and that means more ironing later.

My mother did rollmops, which were better than some of her offerings. I even made them myself, but my OH wasn't appreciative because he knew what he liked, and wouldn't be budged.
Church orchestra this morning and delivering the Parish magazine to the proof readers, then the rest of the days my own.

Thanks for such a detailed debrief Althea. The accident sounds disastrous and getting you in for treatment, equally distressing. However, I'm glad you found it good once you were in there. It's a b*gger that healing takes us so much longer BUT we get there. Hope you do, soon πππ Thanks maris and all of you for your good wishes. I decided to give a fullish account to get it out of the way, maris, rather than talk about it for several days. Sorry for the delay Althea but I now have a new iPad set up and itβs great. I was so sorry to hear for your accident and all that you have gone through because of it. I can only wish you a very swift recovery β€οΈβπ©Ή. I hope you have had plenty of support.

Talking about rollmops my mum used to make them. She used to have the fish gutted and put onions in with the vinegar. I loved them and they are so good for you. Not the same bought from the shop.

My mum used to make Rollmops too . We ate a lot of fish in those days, particularly Kippers.

We did when you think about it. Kippers, smoked mackerel, rollmops, tins of sardines, tins of red salmon (very good for you). I remember my father making soused sonething or other - would it be herring?
Even at school we had cod in a hideous gloopy parsley sauce, smoked haddock and mash (again gloopy), sometimes some kind of rolled white fish with a kind of tomato sauce (tinned) and battered fish every Friday.
I do like fish.

I expect making rollmops is a doddle. The hard part - getting decent herrings!

Yeah, I like fish too. My mum used to cook eels (I expect they were cheap) with the 'liqour' to which you add loads of parsley. That's the stuff they serve with pies in East End Pie n Mash shops - though how they get the liquor without cooking eels is anyone's guess. They say now "If you love eels - don't eat them" !! I think they are overfished as well as the young elvers being in demand by the Chinese. They eat all sorts to extinction π Plus the eel life cycle is so complex and lengthy.
Hence I don't eat eels anymore. Or octopus...

But I don't approve of whitebait (baby herrings) or elvers. As for Octopus a sentient animal, it doesn't seem fair or decent. But since flour is made of ground up seeds, it gives no right to pontificate.

I have my car back! Yay, bought a bottle of wine to celebrate tonight.
It was something quite simple with the coolant system. That was the whooshing sound. There is some give in a few clips which would be the clunk noise. I've booked it in at the end of September to get the clips done.
Anyway lovely chap at my garage only charged me Β£40, so I got him a bottle of wine too.

Oh no. At one time, you could do your Christmas shopping in garden centres, then the marketeers caught on and bombarded them with Christmas tat, ruining them for discerning shoppers.
