Oh that's awful. This has got out of control. Maybe if they bring the army in it may settle down......or make it worse.

I haven't heard anything being actually reported in terms of rioting. I know the police have told them they won't be arrested if they protest peacefully. That does mean you can shout things, just not make threats.
Perhaps now they're seeing people sent to prison they might be put off.
Apparently their was a 15 year old in court today and he was crying. However the judge told him that in going to the protest and throwing bricks at the police he was charged with serious offences and he was already breaking his bail conditions for previous offences. He was told he would be bailed but he would be back in court later this month and should prepare himself for a custodial sentence. I think that's fair enough. Whatever he'd done before, he was already banned from his city centre and banned from travelling on certain bus routes, so clearly not just a heat of the moment thing.

Morning all: Very dark these mornings, a little milder today with rain forecast. They keep saying there's another mini heatwave on the way.

I have been in touch with Althea. She has suffered a lot but says she will be back soon. We all look forward to that Althea.

The predicted violent protests didn't materialise but a lot of peaceful counter protests did...they were very big in numbers too 👍 Good to see.
Some of those arrested are the sort of thugs who just love a fight but many more might have been other people driven by anger but have now got the shock of coming unstuck! When did violence ever achieve anything?
You can just imagine the fear in Hildie's community to be given the order to go home and lock yourselves in. Dreadful.

I am encouraged by the substantial peaceful anti fascist protests separating the gullible morons from making the impact their instigators had planned. I just hope the mini heatwave predicted doesn't heat up the unruly element. Going home and locking yourself in isn't a bad move if you happen to live in a high risk area.

It's not that I do live in an area where they necessarily thought anything would happen, but we're not that far from the mosque that was attacked and the police had no idea the direction people would move.
I think there was a protest but nothing much happened, presumably they listened to the police warnings.
There were protests and petitions when the mosque was proposed as it is in a busy residential area next to a difficult road junction. There is no parking and people felt there were better places to put it. I used to nip down that way on my way back from work because there is an Aldi there which was handy for bits and bobs, but it's a nightmare now, cars parked everywhere, up on pavements, double parked while they're meeting up with friends outside the mosque and children darting about. I just avoid it now. From that perspective it was unpopular from the start but it doesn't excuse trying to damage or set fire to it. It's here now. The money mostly came from the Saudis. There is another mosque in another part of town and that's a nightmare to get past too.

Hi all, I had my MRI scan yesterday afternoon, it was for the whole of my spine, after 1 hour in the machine having to keep still for the entire time I was in the tube, both my hands went to sleep, I was certainly glad to get out of there.

I'd guess another sector of Sunderland's populace would cite another (to them) much bigger problem!

Good luck and here's hoping for results that show the problem can be addressed and treated.

I've been in the scanner and hated it. I get claustrophobic so was so glad when I got out. I hope all went well.

I'd guess another sector of Sunderland's populace would cite another (to them) much bigger problem! No I also thought it was a stupid place for the mosque. It's not a predominantly Muslim area, maybe 60/40 and there is not a shortage of land they could have built on nearby closer to the city centre where they could have had a large car park and not caused the disturbance they do. It's next to a Metro station too. I will be honest, they are not considerate of other drivers and not at all considerate of female drivers. They definitely expect you to wait until they are ready to move while they finish their chat and they never give way. I avoid the whole area on Friday because I've heard that the crowds can get big. There is a green opposite and they keep putting in applications for a car park but I think the council knows it would have a fight on as there is no other green anywhere near. I just think the council caved in. They should have made them come up with a better site and this has continued to rankle others in the area and as they get fed up and move out it will become more predominantly Muslim. Except that there are no large houses around, mostly two bedroom, which doesn't work too well when multi-generations live together.

I think I was lucky in that I was only in the scanner for about half an hour, I almost fell asleep, definitely in the twilight zone up until the operator startled me and told me I only had five minutes to go. in my case the epidural didn’t work and the next stage is an op - rods and screws were mentioned 😮. It won’t happened any time soon but new diet started today as I want to give myself the best chance of surviving the op.
