Today is the Buckley Jubilee, held on the second Tuesday in July for more than a century. It is pouring down - as per usual. The fair is on the common and judging by the noise, the kids are loving it. The pubs are open all day and the shops are nearly all shut, so are the roads for the procession. I can remember many happy Jubilees at my in laws (next door but one to where I live now.) We always had a wonderful tea, always sherry trifle and a few brandies. My ma in law was a good cook. The only thing was, she made everything so sweet. Her almond slices were out of this world. Ah, happy times.

Raining torrents up here and only 12°. I have put the heating on. Feeling cold and damp all day at work.

Off for choir practice as soon as I've finished my tea. I may be able to whiz round the shop for bread and eggs on the way.

Rwth. You obviously Do like art! But then, it's all subjective. Arena kindly posted one of his favourites which would likely be near the bottom of my list. But so what? All good stuff, eh?

I waved a hand and said "Oh don't worry - I've seen it all before..." Not in quite that way, as it turned out 😂

I think if you saw it in the 'flesh' you would be engaged by the textures Singer Sargent achieved in this. My wife and I , both art graduates marvelled at it, But each to their taste Turner doesn't do it for me.

I recall standing in front of the Fighting Temeraire in the NG with a dear, dear art lover pal of mine (RIP) She wouldn't be convinced either - no matter what I said 😁

My son did a fine art degree in his spare time and Turner is his absolute hero. My son taught me some very interesting facts about Turner and Pablo Picasso. I am what "they" call eclectic, in that I love all sorts of art, but not necessarily every piece by an artist. Some modern art, some classic, I always enjoy new ways that artists find to express themselves. I don't like artists who create simply to shock. This morning there is a new knitted scene on our post box in town that is extremely artistic. It is a wonderful portrayal of Buckley Band. Knitted to coincide with the Jubilee. Some may not appreciate the time and skill involved, but some of the members of the band are instantly recognisable.
