The rain has just arrived here after a cold and dry morning. My daughter and son in law lived in Portsmouth when he was serving on the navy. We used to go there 4 times a year. I liked Gosport and Lee on Solent, went over to The isle of wight and to Bournemouth and Southampton while we were there too. Mrs A was born in Newport. I .loved the Isle of Wight en.kinorium.com/name/82223/

Morning all: Well, we are almost half way through the year now. It seems to be passing very quickly without noticing.

It does that, ever faster all the time. When we were children, a year seemed to last for ever. Now it is only a diminishingly small part of our experience it carries us onward to our fate.

The planet has gone crazy. I was watching Romesh Ranaganathan's travelogue on Madagascar. Again, climate change has meant large swathes of that huge island are now barren - so hot, so dry, and folk are migrating in any way they can. And here, I looked out of my window today and here we are - mid June and another day of cloud and rain. 🫤☔
Yesterday we went to see Flamenco Festival 💃 at Sadlers Wells with the Ballet Nacional de Espana. It was absolutely wonderful,so passionate and soulful. The dancers - especially the men 😍 were just brilliant!
In town, everyone was wearing winter clothes. So depressing.

Morning all: One more week to the longest day. Is anyone else fed up of election stuff on the news? Apart from watching the weather I try to avoid the news but each time I switch over there it is, darn election stuff.

If you are on android or windows you could try moviscope, there's a vast selection of tv shows and movies on there Ron.

While we were in Belfast, the hotel where we stayed had Netflix. Not being a subscriber, I saw it as a good opportunity to watch the first episode of Ripley to see if it was as good as I'd heard. We watched it and I was thereby hooked. I subscribed the minute we got home...well, I just HAD to see the next episode. 4.99 a month - not a huge amount and this series alone is worth that, and more. Best thing I've watched in ages.

WE did have Netflix for a few years but hardly ever watched anything on there. We tend to like the oldies in black and white. There's plenty of them on You tube.

Best thing I've watched in ages. With the BBC licence going at £169.50 it makes me wonder why we pay at all. I rarely watch anything on the iPlayer and our TV set hasn't been on for over a year, my wife watches you tube and I watch k-drama on the web.

I haven't had a licence for 14 years. I stream Amazon, Netflix and Acorn. Currently Emergency bikers, Heartland because I love horses and have just started watching an Irish thriller series. I watched the first series of "Mrs Sidhu investigates" with Meera Syal and the supporting videos showed how much the cast loves each other. I really don't need TV with the use of the moving image to lie to us about almost everything. News is only about what they want you to think so I look at the headlines on Science mainly to get stories about what is going on in the background. Politics, business and sport are corrupt except when they obviously aren't, and my own memory and constructs from international writers fill in some of the gaps. How NATO was created to sell arms because the UN was bad for the arms trade. Mostly arms and oil behind nearly everything going on. A few clear voices telling the truth about Nature, freedom of peoples and the environment in the distance and at home doing our best to build and protect communities. Trying not to be cynical about life and keeping faith in a future for the next generations is the best we can do.
