I think a lot of people are doing their best to help. I have just had an e-mail from my local pub offering to deliver lunch time meals to anyone who has to self isolate. That includes me as I will be on lockdown as from tomorrow evening.

Same as cats: today is also St Gertrude of Nivelles' day, and she is the patron saint of cats.

Morning everybody, nice weather for a change - we got the patio half washed yesterday and should do the rest today. It was filthy, hadn't been done for two years. Living in a non industrial area it's amazing the amount of muck that comes down from the sky I have one daughter currently on holiday in Vietnam who has struggled to get home with planes being cancelled. She's on a package with Tui and they have finally got a flight out via Thailand and due to take off in four hours. Meanwhile her daughter was on holiday in Peru which closed it's borders but she managed to get home via Spain

It's very difficult working in surgeries as well as hospitals.
Our grandaughter is a district nurse and though like us have had the flu jab this is something entirely different.
My son in law was due for a new hip on 25th March and he's waited 18 months for it but that's been cancelled.
The lady who books our holiday rang to ask If we wanted to change the date till late September, we sat and talked about it and decided that we will wait another couple of weeks then If the situation hasn't changed or got worse then we will cancel and have a full refund.

Been a difficult couple of days. Yesterday I set up most of what I need to work from home. I have a decent PC and printer, a few files and remote access to the office and telephone system. It is SO quiet. I am used to a bit of activity around me even though I work on my own in my own office. I almost feel as if I have abandoned the ship! Quite emotional after 43 years. Other people are all working, and we are carrying on, as far as possible as normal. I do know the telephones have gone quite quiet.
We have plenty of work to complete, but we are getting very worrying messages from some of the Universities telling us to hold onto stuff we have nearly completed for them as this or that department will be closed. However the main focus right now is what we are doing for one of the labs in Oxford who are part of the team of labs around the world looking for a vaccine. I have been in more or less daily contact with them, and their experts.
How long I can hunker down for I simply don't know. I will perhaps have a tidy house for the first time in years, and maybe even a tidy garden, but with 1/3 of an acre it is never ever going to be that tidy.
The one up side is, my slow cooker is ticking away with a rather nice smell of supper to come. And all of us can but hope everyone stays safe.
