Strictly looks decidedly lacklustre ๐ It'll kick off, something will happen or be made to happen I don't like the look of the new head judge, why does she have that position when others there are as qualified and more experienced in this competition

I always watch but the number of recognisable faces decreases year on year ๐ Yes Ballas... high on credentials, short on personality (so far) Going on the group dance, I was surprised Debbie Mc looked very good and quite at home - I will root for her, I think. She's an Oldie ๐

Glad Goodman has gone, pity he didn't take the idiot Tolioni with him (what has he ever done other than danced as a bcker in an Elton John video)Will reserve judgement on the new woman, she looks like a toughie to me

I watched the first episode of Black Lake - utter tosh, so have deleted the next and cancelled the series link.
That finished ten minutes before the news and I watched about two minutes of Mrs Brown. My goodness...every character was a crass caricature and I found the whole thing without humour or merit of any kind. It left a bad taste. I put it on mute until the news came on ๐ฆ

Watched the second part of the two parter 'Strike' last night. Very very complicated plot line, and a wee bit of a weak ending.
It must have been half good as I didn't fall asleep while it was on!

Watching Victoria made me wonder how factually correct it is. Was Albert really the result of his mother's fling with the Belgian king?

The book was just as difficult to follow. Having key to plot characters who you never see (Quine, dead wife) does not help. But there's the will they/won't they with Strike and Robin. She wants to ditch that wet fiancรฉ pdq... just no contest!

Monday night we have BBC and ITV's police dramas opposite each other at 9pm, Rellik and Liar I cannot get into Rellik which is supposedly a murder running backwards, hence the name. We have started from the end and are working backwards but for me it is too confusing Liar however is well written and acted, a story of a couple who sleep together and afterwards she claims to have been raped. Did he or didn't he, the story is developing nicely

I really prefer one off dramas to serials.

I hope Hild reads this. I have always watched The Undateables and my heart goes out to all the date-seekers, hoping to find someone. Do any of you watch it? Do you think it's exploitative in any way?

I think the TV production companies have missed a trick. They should consider combining 'The undatables' with 'naked attraction' to have a new show, 'The naked undateables'. There are some bloody sados out there... A bit like some of the medical things. Embarrassing bodies. 'I am really embarrassed that my bum is all lopsided (I am being polite!) so I am going to display all my bits to several million people on TV'

I hope Hild reads this. I have always watched The Undateables and my heart goes out to all the date-seekers, hoping to find someone. Do any of you watch it? Do you think it's exploitative in any way? Honestly the charity I work for has been approached every year to find out if we would nominate any of the people we support to take part in the show. We have always said no. We think it is unethical for them to go about it this way, if people do not respond to the recruitment adverts then advertise again but don't go phoning charities and social care business trying to get people to take part.
All of these TV shows are exploitative in one way or another. Some people are genuinely keen to take part but do they have the capacity to weigh up the long term pros and cons. Funnily enough one of the young men who supports my son was in the original cast for Geordie Shore. Very fit and attractive young man. He left after the first few weeks of filming because he did not want to expose himself on TV and did not want to follow the direction the producers wanted. He says that before every spontaneous scene they are given instructions such as, you argue with him, you refuse to get off the minibus, you climb into her bed for a cuddle because your missing your dog/daughter/real life!! They are instructed to fight, argue and he just gave it up and left. Good for him.
These shows could be helpful but I don't know how meaningful they really are as they are so personalised and that is where the exploitation comes in.
It would be better if they spent the money setting up and running a social group for people in the various categories to go and out and meet up and have a good time and we followed them doing this, but I don't think it would be as invasive as these shows can be and not as freak showish either. Once colleague calls them Barnum and Bailey TV and I err more towards that than the other.
