Now Sunderland experiencing unrest Hildie. Hope you were at a distance and not in danger. No doubt anarchists are part of the rioting but when something like this is happening in society, it's one thing to react with a 'task force' but nobody seems to be looking at or acknowledging what is behind all this and just blaming 'far right' extremists because a lot of people are angry about uncontrolled immigration and its impacts - and that's without factoring in fury over atrocities and attacks which add deadly fuel to this fire. The Southport attacker was born here, and not Muslim. That fact was not relevant and fell on deaf ears. Their logic goes if his parents had not come here, he would not be here and three children would still be alive. Same as the Manchester bombings and Pakistani grooming gangs. The fracture in society now is led by the sentiment "Why are they even here?" The political narrative of course is led by 'cohesion and integration' and furthermore, which is seen simply as virtue signalling and any feelings counter to this must be squashed - leading to more anger. I see and hear this all the time from people around me. They are not far right or demonstrators, just mightily fed up. The damage is done. Nothing is being done. And so it goes on. The argument that 'If his parents had have come here' may apply to the little girls parents too.

Living in France, you will certainly have opinions on what's reported, which of course will be in line with the sources you use. Actually living here, you might have a different perspective on just how 'broken' Britain is and I can tell you, it IS disturbing. I live in a very middle class 'bubble' of a town but even here you can be taken back by the views and opinions around, from formerly quite moderate people - some even in my own family! It's not good.

Hi Arena, I have been a labour voter all my life, I wouldn't vote for Corbyn and I wouldn't vote for Starmer because he refused to say where his party was going to get the money from.

Hi Arena, I have been a labour voter all my life, I wouldn't vote for Corbyn and I wouldn't vote for Starmer because he refused to say where his party was going to get the money from. Many feel like you Riki, including me! Aside from the care announcement, I think the withdrawal of winter fuel allowance is going to impact many who are just over that threshold with the result that those on Pension Credit will like come out on top above those who don't quite qualify. I think they haven't been thinking things through and wanted to send a message that Mick Jagger (I always pick on him, poor bloke) isn't going to get it and everyone would say "Good" They have come to believe pensioners=rich folk. That's far from true. They are introducing stuff that, in opposition, they would've called "austerity" !

Filthy water. (There's little to be gained from finding these companies, why don't we take those amounts in their shares?) [Ofwat has today (6 August 2024) proposed that three water companies will be fined a total of £168m for failing to manage their wastewater treatment works and networks, as part of the first batch of outcomes from its biggest ever investigation.3 hours ago] This map shows the shocking statistics on illegal sewage released into our rivers. www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-62631320
