I'm much more upset by war and hatred than interpretations of an art montage.

I know this has caused controversy but I must have been getting a drink because I missed it.
I note it was described as a pagan feast. Now that's one you can let your imagination run with, because we don't really know how the pagans of the Paris region, pre the fact that there was a Paris region were doing on party night.
I suppose they've some idea what the Romans were doing but it gives you tons on scope. None of which would probably have resulted in you imagining a hundred people sheltering under some kind of hut to stay out of the rain whilst the best hunting teams went past in a canoes!
Anything the Romans said the pagans did is untrustworthy and on a wet Saturday night they probably huddled under blankets whilst Brand bored everyone senseless with the stories of his youth and the stew went cold. I bet I'd still be found hanging about the kitchen corner wondering when it was polite to push off to my hovel!

I would guess then that The Last Supper has no relevance for you Arena, whether depicted in art - or in any other respect.

It is supposed to be a pagan feast and the main character Diogenes.
I hope the Greeks are tolerant.

I am concerned about animals attacking a church and injuring the police because they assumed a killer was Muslim.
A lot of assuming going on.
Religion in Rwanda (2022 census)[1] Protestantism (48%) Catholicism (40%) Other Christian (4%) Muslim (2%) None (3%) Other (3%) St. Rita's Cathedral in Rwamagana
Christianity is the largest organised religion in Rwanda. The most recent 2022 census indicated that: 48% of Rwanda's population is Protestant, 40% is Catholic, 4% belongs to other Christian denominations, 2% is Muslim (mainly Sunni)

If these thugs learnt he is a Christian, would they attack his church? I don't think so!

Having now looked at still images of the vignette and the paintings of the last supper I think.
1. There are obvious similarities 2. The sexualised nature of the overall images is not family viewing. 3. France can sometimes push it's secularism down other people's throats e.g. hijab ban for female athletes does nothing to raise the profile of those women who battle adversity to become athletes in their patriarchal societies. 4. Why does everything need to have drag artists and fetishism in it. 5. Why were the French trying to portray a minor Greek! 6. It was completely naff. It wasn't even a good portrayal of a likely pagan feast in Northern France.
I can see why people were dismayed and why some were angry. I don't want to curtail art but there is a place for it. International TV events is probably not one of them. Overall I see a lot of the vignettes as being an excuse to parade sexuality, promote LGBQT+ groups and parody real women. Let's not forget Liberte, Egalite and Fraternite missed out the second largest group of people in France, sororite!!!

I heard today these these blokes (from elsewhere apparently) turned up in Southport and right after the vigil, started handing out flyers saying the perpetrator was a Moslem illegal immigrant from Syria...all nonsense of course. I believe this was a social media bit of 'fake news' circulating, originating in Russia...
The poor folk of Southport just did NOT need this.
As to the event itself, it is totally incomprehensible and beyond sad.

We all know that the police never release any information about an accused person that might jeopardise the trial. This person is also a minor, which means that questioning him will take longer. There will probably need to be a specialist solicitor present who has experience in children's cases and very likely a psychiatric assessment before they can start talking to him. They have been given another 96 hours to do this, which is probably the limit a magistrate will go in regards to holding a minor in police custody.
Other professionals may also be taking part in questioning or being questioned. People who know him for instance social workers, probation services if he has been in trouble before, his GP. They will charge him within the 96 hours and may add other charges later.
I think there will be major discussions about where he goes between now and the trial.
We don't need to know any of this right now, as has always been the case, we will find out more at the trial.
I must say I am furious with Farage, who has said people wouldn't have reacted the way they did if the police had given the public more information. He's a terrible agitator and should be spoken to by the police. There was no excuse for people behaving this way, no justification at all. The perpetrator had been arrested and was in custody. People did not need more information than that.

I don't know about fake news from Farage but he has an agenda and all this plays right into it, so he will capitalise. He knows his followers. The riots are taking place in a number of places - not just Southport. So why? Despite the tragedy there (and now knowing the youth charged was born in Wales) those facts are now irrelevant. The flames have been fanned. I would guess (Southport apart) immigration is behind the unrest - what would stop it is a few violent thunderstorms and a heavy downpour. These events always occur in hot balmy weather.

Farage always phrases his rhetoric as a question.
It's always "Why don't the police give us more information, then people won't make mistakes".
This is why it is hard to accuse him a doing something wrong.
The fact that the police never release a suspects name before a charge, unless they are on the run and dangerous, is not lost on him. He knows people are innocent until proven guilty and releasing a name of a suspect can result in actual harm coming to someone completely innocent.
None of this is any excuse for the behaviour we have seen this week.
I hope the police meeting today results in further charges for the people rioting in Southport, London, Hartlepool and now it appears Aldershot. Starmer has told police and CPS to use full powers to prosecute people.
We have known for some time that the number of people referred to the PREVENT programme are predomin right wing young men, yet all the media tell us is that it is Muslims. It just isn't true, even in my college, it's nearly always right wing and misogynistic ideologies we deal with.
