I think if we read back on our posts we're not that far apart. If she comes back for this case, and that is not in itself an easy or quick event. We have no current jurisdiction where she is being held. We would need the assistance of the govt of the country in which she is being held. Even countries wanting to bring back children (and in most cases, these have been children under 10), have taken months to organise it.
So if and when she is brought back for this case, she will have others to answer and I think she'll receive a prison sentence from this.
I think we all know this.
The issue really is why the govt tried to fight it. If as Rees-Mogg had suggested, she was brought back when authorities first became aware she was in a camp, it would all be settled by now. She'd be in prison and paying the consequences of her actions and we would know what evidence there was against her. We don't know that now.
And we need to test this - can a govt remove citizenship from a person who has no other country to go to. I sincerely hope they can't. As one poster has said his partner is from a different country and let's say she committed an offence that was relatively minor but incurred a short prison sentence. What happens?
Begum was born here and has never lived in Bangladesh. There will be thousands of people who are British citizens who have parents who were born in a different country. A change in the law could jeorpadise their situation. I wouldn't want that to be hanging over the heads of these people because of one case.

I'm afraid I know nothing and suspect that goes for most of us. We are pivking up threads of correspondents reports, and they are not aware beyond the elements that they are required to be reported on . For Example, What elements that were mentioned in whatever trial(s) that she had included or excluded matters that a Western gov deem relevant. .. and who were those correspondents?

I guess that's the point, we don't know what she did out there. There will be people who knew her, witnessed things and know more than we do. The govt have not said what they know, other than to deny her citizenship. I don't think that's enough to simply condemn her out of hand. Windrush gave us a clear idea how the govt can seriously mismanaged citizenship claims. May took years to get that preacher extradited and we were all told how heinous he was but we never had enough on him here to keep him in prison. Perhaps if Begum comes back she will then be extradited to another country for trial depending on what evidence they have. However she can't go to Bangladesh if they intent to execute her. We have just rescinded our extradition treaty with Hong Kong because their people can now face the death sentence in China. Could we be that hypocritical..... !!
