14 degrees right now, but will get sunny later. I fancy a trip out to an antique shop. I collect Caithness glass paperweights and like to go and have a check to see if they have any in. On the other hand, I want to paint a large butterfly, oh, decisions, decisions. I'm not superstitious about the date - but then again....................

Well, you're lucky! It's been a poor summer here and I've driven passed field after field of grain crops, beaten down by the rain, and useless. Poor farmers.

GLO I went to Basildon this morning. They've pulled down a concrete monstrosity...and put up another one in its place. On a more pleasant note, a guy was on a cherry picker, painting an absolutely enormous mural across the QD building. Nowhere near finished but already it looks brilliant!

Speaking of murals, did you know Banksy uses stencils? My art tutor and I have had a disagreement about Banksy. Stuart is a purist, he doesn't reckon stencils. I think , because Banksy has to work quickly without being spotted, he uses stencils to get the job done in a hurry. His works are comments on society and brilliant, in my book.

Perhaps you should point out to Stuart , that stencils etc , have been used by famous artists for a very long time

Oh ,he does know about that. He has told me how the great masters used to copy each others' ideas and share their work with each other. I think, that because he knows I like Banksy's work, he was just trying to show me that every artist has their ways and means.

I was hoping you'd seen it as I couldn't make it out from the outlines and he'd only completed a little bit. I like it though.

Yes Althea, throughout history painters have copied one another's ideas, though they call it influence. Except Michelangelo...who apparently destroyed all preparatory sketches etc to make sure nobody copied them. The more I read about him the more he annoys me 😆

I love these late summer evenings. Been out tonight with my pals for a few beers sitting in the beer garden. Very enjoyable it was too.

I was hoping you'd seen it as I couldn't make it out from the outlines and he'd only completed a little bit. I like it though. Which one? The ex-Mark and Specer store awaiting a new owner to clean it up? The Shops by the New (empty) college that replaces the college in "The Icon" that was never used and wasn't needed in the first place, or the one next to the as-yet-unfinished cinema that replaces the previous one abandoned because no-one went there, which replaces the previous one that was seldom used or......
