I agree with every word, maris. I love Alan Bennett's writing, but wasn't wowed by this film. I think Maggie Smith is becoming a caricature of herself,if you know what I mean.

The film itself was a little long for me, it was only the acting of Maggie Smith that held it together.

His motivation certainly wasn't '...there's a book in this...' I love him ๐ He is not my heartthrob.

I just wonder how many people and neighbours would tolerate a vagrant/tramp/homeless person parked outside their neighbourhood, and then on somebody's drive. Never mind the health/hygiene angle which should concern the LA/Social Services and whoever else is responsible I remember the case of a chic new development being built next to a wood where a homeless man had lived for a lot of years The new inhabitants of the new houses didn't like him living there, so they complained. Social Services took him into Care, and put him into a Home where he quickly died

Yes. I think my charity would've run out pretty quickly - even if she was next door!

Did any of you watch Fake or Fortune? I enjoy this show a lot (Fiona notwithstanding ๐) but this was a most fascinating unravelling. Constable is one of those painters whose work is SO familiar, you can become blase and stop seeing how brilliant a painter he was. Lovely blue dress Fiona was wearing btw...

I love the programme but dislike Bruce, Smug in stilettos. I cannot watch Flog It, although I am passionate about antiques (It helps, being one). Paul Martin makes me puke. I also like quizzes but have to put up with Smarmy Vine on Eggheads! Rant for today over.

Do any of you love Normal for Norfolk? My favourite is Chloe who wears jacket, hat and gloves indoors as tight Desmond won't turn the heating on. My other favourite is Edmund (slight crush there)..."Granny pays rent?? B*stard!!" This programme cheers me up no end ๐

I quite like Flog it, find Paul Martin quite a good presenter and he seems very popular He has a formidable mother, she always reminds me of a record that Sarah Kennedy used to play on her radio programme by Joyce somebody or other about a woman sailing across a dance floor like a stately ship

This Country is pretty good: Ep 1 here (with the other eps underneath). I watched all of them quite a while ago and found it hilarious. Best one was the tattooist neighbour practising on Kerry ๐๐๐๐ oh and top shelf in the oven...and Uncle ? homecoming party (what was his name?) Terrific idea from those two and the observations of the residents was spot on - it was very poignant in places ๐จ
