This sparks another debate really about what competitors should be judged on...whether the dance has the correct elements (executed properly of course) or whether it's simply very entertaining. Have to say, I'm with Len on this...but then I am an Oldie! I've enjoyed ballroom dancing since a child but I'm hard pushed to recognise them on SCD sometimes... And they NEVER do the Veleta or the Military Two Step... 😄 We used to have to do the Valeta at school and dances like Strip the Willow and the Dashing White Sergeant. I think it would be a good week to do on Strictly. Old Time Dances with strict tempo music and no flashing lights!! Do you remember how bouncy the Valeta was, bounce we would go around the hall. Junior School Head Teacher was a Dance 'Collector', we had to do folk dances every time it was too wet to play outside.

Hild... I reckon you went to the same school as me! Or were they all like that? The other thing I remember was that the music was provided by a brilliant pianist (the school office secretary, as I recall) - she could play literally anything!
Agree with some of the Old Time dances to have an airing on SCD...sort the gentlemen from the boys!

Agree with some of the Old Time dances to have an airing on SCD...sort the gentlemen from the boys! I really don't know but all the schools in the area did dancing. You were expected to be able to do them for your Christmas Party, especially the Barn Dance where you had to change partners. It was only in seniors that we had a disco; but then you had the teachers wanting to dance with you. Crikey the humiliation of Kung Fu Fighting with the chemistry teacher - you couldn't say no, if you said no they wouldn't let you dance for the rest of the night. In juniors there was a thing called Music and Movement where a woman on a recording would tell you to chug around like a train or blow in the wind and stuff. We were always doing something like that, every day there was some kind of jump around hour. Mind you it was the only time you did get to express yourself, our cane and strap wielding teachers were never that far away and self-expression was not condoned! I like many others took up the challenge and ran the gauntlet of the dinner ladies from Colditz (as we fondly called them)!

These were all part of dances at the Village Hall, along with a daring Jive if the MC had an appropriate record At junior school it was all Country Dancing, I remember the Circassian (?) Circle Back to Strictly, if the voting follows the trend of non whites out then Naga and Ori must be very worried. The oh so PC BBC will not like this

Loved Laura's quick step last night- it should keep her out of the dance off this evening. Louise's footwork was beautiful - she is a natural dancer.
Ore's jive was fantastic but Jay's jive, for me,will never be bettered.
Danny's fantastic quick step was a little overshadowed by it.
Lesley is doing well but I think the judges went a little overboard with their remarks.
On last night's performance Ed should be in the dance off tonight.

Correct decision tonight...but I don't think Anastacia will last much longer though. I know she won the dance off but let's face it, the dance was boringly competent.
Naga was just not that good! Racism? No. Naga was relieved, I reckon... and that partnership with Pasha always seemed strained to me.

SCD has form like this, as does the X Factor

It can be explained easily...you just look at the dancing. Take last night for instance. I like Naga a lot, but she's not a good dancer. I don't like Anastasia much but looking at those two performances, there is no way you could save Naga. Shame you don't get marks for effort though...it would've been Anastasia 2, Naga 10 !!!

Another discussion is about success and previous dance experience.
Everyone goes on about Jay (and his jive) and even Danny this year. They ARE good, don't get me wrong, but not half as impressive as Ore who has had NO previous dance training. A dance 'journey' cannot be much of an achievement if your starting point was already halfway along it.

I have a few criticisms of Strictly,(minor ones),but Racism has NEVER been one of them. How ridiculous! Now the press are saying Naga was voted out because of her race. She's a lovely girl, but she wasn't a good dancer. Saying that though,Ed Balls should have been the one to go. His stomping, and windmilling with his arms were so reminiscent of dear John Sargeant. I found it embarrassing.

I found it embarrassing. Agree Althea. How can SCD be racist? And the claim might have some credence if it was a good dancer who went out. Naga? Lovely. Good dancer? No. The GBP decide who are in the bottom two, and they vote - and don't vote - for all sorts of reasons. For example, I GUARANTEE that some people voted for Laura this week because her little dog was on the training clip...awwww, bless....😵 Do me a favour! The daftest thing is when people say stuff like "I really like Daisy, but everyone will vote for her anyway, so I voted for judge Rinder..." which is how good dancers sometimes end up in the dance-off! Likewise, Ed still being in, for whatever reason, the public are voting for him...as bad as he is!

Apart from Mark Ramprakash can you point me to a winner of SCD despite the number of non white contestants over the years despite many being very good dancers Similarly apart from Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke on the X Factor. Even noticeably on this years show the Scandinavian contestant is continually in the bottom two. Brexiters are voting heavily

A dance 'journey' cannot be much of an achievement if your starting point was already halfway along it. Not sure about everyone but I do and will continue to do so forever....his jive was FANTASTIC!! I was talking to my daughter before the results were announced last night and we discussed who might go and Naga's name came up..we both agreed her dancing is okayish but not that brilliant.. Any talk of racism is ridiculous...wherever it comes from....Alesha ...winner...Louis...winner... Mark ...winner....Colin 2nd place..
