Just read this -
The EU budget amounts to around one percent of the total annual output of the EU, as measured by gross domestic product (GDP). To fund it, member countries are expected to contribute one percent of their respective national GDPs. However, ever since Margaret Thatcher negotiated the famous rebate in 1984, the UK has been required to pay less than this proportion, with others then obliged to pay relatively more to make up the difference. The result is that the actual amount that the UK ‘sends to Brussels’, to use a phrase often employed in the debate, is not the hypothetical gross contribution, but an amount that has already been reduced because of the rebate.

I heard Cameron this morning telling us that our being members of the EU was helping to stop further European wars. WHAT! That is ludicrous, and whether you are for remain or stay in my view that is scraping at the bottom of the barrel.
Greece is a member, but there is serious unrest there which given their track record could so easily trigger some sort of civil war. I really hope I am wrong, but will being a member of the EU prevent that? No, people will simply be killed while the rest wring their hands and have another meeting.

So.........stick to FACTS. For every £1 paid in tax, a little over 1p goes to the EU.” Again, this could be much higher—in fact, a little over 2p—depending on how you choose to count it. Origin: fullfact.org/europe/

Origin: fullfact.org/europe/But NONE of them are sticking to the Facts Arena, partly because the facts are almost impossible to derive. And it is opinion which is driving the debate, if you can call it debate. Will we be safer in or out? I don't bloody well know, it depends on whether the intelligence services continue to share information. Will they? I don't know! Will our borders be more secure? I doubt it will make a lot of difference. We have the ludicrous situation where someone can't be deported because clever lawyers have made a human rights or European Justice case, and on the other hand a S African woman aged about 75 in Bristol being deported. She has lived here for quite a few years and needs dialysis three times a week to stay alive. Dialysis is not available in S Africa if you are over 65, unless you can pay for it. She cant afford to pay.

You cannot complain and then say we would abide by the rules. That means relinquishing one's input but obeying. Not sensible.

Now that the high and mighty have had their say in wall to wall media coverage it is starting to get quite interesting. The BBC are doing a few interviews, for and against by fairly ordinary people. Farmers, business people, fishermen, all sorts. And most of them are speaking a great deal of common sense.

Scottish farmers and fishermen (I don't know about the others) are all in favour of staying in, as they sell most of their lambs and seafood to the countries of mainland Europe.

And as a contrast an English beef farmer was interviewed last night who said he is unable to sell his stock in Europe but markets in England were full of European beef cattle. I assume he meant livestock and not deadstock.

Meanwhile, former Conservative Prime Minister Sir John Major is expected to launch a scathing attack against 'leave' supporters on 13 May. The pro-EU campaigner will claim Brexit campaigners are "morphing into Ukip".
