Adverts are one of the main reasons why I torrent TV programmes rather than watch them live. You've paid extra for a channel and you still get adverts - 20 minutes' worth an hour. Maybe 1% of them are interesting, amusing, etc: but even then only for the first or second time - after that they're all as dull as those ambulance-chasing lawyer adverts you get in every break during the daytime.
Programmes from the 70s or 80s that were made to fit in an hour-long slot (including adverts) not take up 70 minutes - extra adverts. A film that lasts 90 minutes gets a 2 and a half hour slot, for adverts.
There was an advert in the 80s that was cited at the time as being the ultimate in the advert-maker's art, with a budget as big as many full-length films. It showed a famous model - I think - going down a flight of stairs to a flash car at the bottom, losing her clothes on the way (maybe not all her clothes), but it was so artfully filmed so that you didn't see anything.
Well, no, it wasn't: there were a couple of shots where a nipple had been removed digitally (or however they did it back then): it made the model's breast look strange; but the thing is, even with that huge budget the director had still not managed to film it properly.
There is a cheap horror film called The Unnameable Returns, in which a character stays naked throughout. It is so well filmed that the film got a low classification - 14, would it be? - because there was no nudity (not of the kind that bothers censors anyway): plenty of violence, but that doesn't count.

Only when you dance, eh? (Frank Zappa song: Take your clothes off when you dance):
I can't find the advert I mean, just more recent ones. Thanks though.
Anyway:
