As the leaves are twirling and twisting
On their journey to the ground.
My thoughts come swirling upwards
And I can not keep them down.
And when the mists start clearing
I begin to see
An old man with silver hair
Is holding hands with me.
His blue eyes shine with love
As he turns and winks at me,
We wander down the country lane
And it's a wondrous place to be,
Walking with my Granda
On our way home for tea.
In the hedgerow we spot a stile,
He lifts me and we sit awhile.
Then the air is filled
With his rich clear voice
As he sings my song
My favourite choice.
I know he's singing just for me
I feel as proud as proud can be
As we both dawdle home for tea.
Now shops and houses fill the land
Where I used to walk with my old Grand.
I can never take that walk again,
Or dawdle down that country lane.
But,of my memories I take great care
And they can always take me there.
