Domestic Goddess

I am a Domestic Goddess
my sponge cakes always rise.
People have been known to drool
over the pastry in my pies.
My salad's always crispy
and my biscuits too.
My meringues are always light as air.
They love my Irish stew.
My dressings are always tangy.
My steaks will always sizzle.
My soft and fluffy puddings
are finished with a creamy drizzle.
My quiche is never soggy.
My lettuce is never limp.
My mouth- watering vol-au-vents
Are always full of shrimp.
My glasses always sparkle.
My worktops always shine.
My tableware all matches 
when you come to dine.
But whenever I am home alone
and feeding only me
I always have a slice of toast
on a tray across my knee.
