Wow, surprised myself. I got 23 of 24. I did think most were fairly easy, but not for new arrivals to this country.

I tried some 'trick answers' to 'trick questions' - I still managed 17/24.
e.g. Channel Isles - part of UK? No - but partly administered by UK - bit of a grey area? 'Yes' was wrong.

19/24.I got the number in a Scottish Jury wrong, and a couple of obscure ones. Channel islands was a bit below the belt I thought.
What is the pass mark for anyone seeking asylum? Anyone know?

18/24 How on earth are new arrivals here expected to know the answers to most of these if those of us who have lived here for so many years struggle Do applicants have lessons?

I think they get help from those who have already settled here.

I am sure we could devise some questions which would be far more pertinent and maybe a bit more helpful. Such as:
At what age can you vote in the UK?
At what age does a child have to go to school?
What is the name of the current Prime Minister?
And a few others, not trick questions, just simple things.
(we could also do the 'pub quiz' questions the citizens test seems to include!)

I sometimes help people onto sites where there are test questions, and show them how to answer (how to use the mouse, etc). The stuff about Kings and that I never know, and there's other stuff I don't know either (I do pretty well on University Challenge, though). A fair bit of it is irrelevant, or just boasting. Still, the people I have helped know their stuff better than I do (know our stuff, that should probably be).
