A woman has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison for killing a man charged with sexually assaulting young boys on the east London estate where they lived.
Sarah Sands, 32, was found guilty of the manslaughter of Michael Pleasted, 77, by reason of loss of control.
Pleasted, who had previous convictions, was on bail awaiting trial when he was killed at his flat in east London.
He was stabbed eight times and bled to death, the Old Bailey heard.

18 years later: executed for a murder she didn't do...... The first woman to be executed in Georgia for 70 years has been killed by lethal injection after her legal appeals were rejected and a plea by the Pope ignored. Kelly Renee Gissendaner was pronounced dead by lethal injection at 12.21am on Wednesday after court delays left the 47-year-old sitting in a holding room between her cell and the execution gurney for several hours. Gissendaner, who was scheduled to be executed on Tuesday evening at the state prison in Jackson, was convicted of murder in the February 1997 slaying of her husband. She conspired with her lover, who stabbed Douglas Gissendaner to death. I'd have thought eighteen years in solitary was enough punishment!

As far as the woman in the OP is concerned, she took the law into her own hands, she took the knife with her to murder the man so why in heaven's name was she not done for premeditated murder?
If we allow people to go about killing others, taking the law into their own hands, we are on a very rocky road indeed.

But we were not in court so really don't know all of what went on. I understand the woman had 5 kids. Was one of her own a target for this man? We simply don't know. That would still not justify what she did, but if one of mine was harmed by some monster I very much doubt I would sit down and quietly talk to him.

Is there a sub-plot. Was she just a vigilante or was she personally involved?

Subplot or not she committed cold blooded murder.
Just imagine if someone had killed the paediatrician in Bristol (I believe) all those years ago!
We would all, I'm sure, be devastated beyond belief if someone had harmed one of our own children - that still doesn't mean you take the law (poor as it is at times) into your own hands.

Well people being people DO take it upon themselves to get what they call justice. It doesn't make it right, it doesn't justify murder but it is human nature, especially if the particular 'wrong' has been directed at you or your family.
Guilty as charged m'lud.....

Having read the report, I think she deserved her sentence. And so did the Judge. People are very quick to criticise sentencing and base their feelings on reading newspaper reports. Newspaper reports are selective, and slant the wording in the way the reporter or his editor deems appropriate. I sat on a jury some time back where a chap was charged with attempted murder, and a few other things. On the face of it he went after someone with a shotgun and fired at him through the windscreen at quite close range. The victim had pellet wounds to his face. The chap who did it was actually sentenced to two years probation. The press kicked up hell saying how soft the sentence was and there were letters published saying it was outrageous and the judge should be fired, etc etc.. Well, I sat there for the best art of two weeks and listened to all the evidence and if it had been allowed would have stood and given the judge a standing ovation. And I am not in the slightest a 'slap them on the wrist and tell them not to be naughty' type person. I think some crimes are so awful I would make sure life meant the rest of the persons life, no parole, nothing.
