I suppose it is because oldies take their time to consider what is written, then having decided to reply, cannot remember what they have read, the process then iterates until they give up in despair. It could also be the case that they forget tha tthey belong to this board and then when the suddenly remember, they cannot remember their password
Never mind
There is also a tendency amongst oldies, I observe, to get very uppity when people disagree with them and haughtily shut up or flounce off (much the same really), or refuse to answer questions, sometimes accusing those old disagreable ba$tards of aggressive rudeness
Still one musn't expect excitement on the net equivalent of a supervised retirement home

Sir!
Are you casting nasturtiums!!!
I will have you know that my care home adopts an open door policy. Some would say that is an invitation to us all to bugger off, but I think it is just forward thinking on behalf of all the staff, hoping for passing trade.
I have to go now. Time for the nurse to attend to some of my personal requirements. I may be some time......

That feels better, now where was I......
We don't tend to argue on this board methinks, we may discuss and we may disagree but most of the time that is done without too much blood on the carpet. Well maybe the odd drop but that is easily overlooked due to age related myopia.
When one looks at the bile on some other boards I think this is a pretty safe haven for our aged bones and faltering minds.
If I am allowed to stay, then I will from time to time drop by, with full permission from that nice nurse. But don't tell the lady in room 43. She is a jealous old cow.

Well, in order to inject some vitality (not too much) into the board I intend to start a series of threads on the topic 'Hot Tips For Oldies' that will consider such useful seasonal but perhaps controversial activities as 'The Etiquette Of Blackberrying for the Older Novice Picker'
Not only will these threads enliven the board but the will also stimulate old geezers get to off their crinkled arses and widen their life experiences. A bit like 'Outward Bound' for geriatrics - my own contribution to Outreach
Keep tuned in you oldies!

I think we should all be able to suggest a few topics on there.
After I have had my Bengers I will mention it in the common room

Don't tell that old cow in room 43. I have gone right off her. Her pillows smell of lavender water......

I died in the war for people like you... Then you will be out of my Blackberrying group - you will simply slow things down and, God knows, they are slow enough already

I've just been released for good behaviour, there was no internet connection or Wifi signal in the cellar.
