Like most British kids, I grew up thinking jazz was what Kenny ball played.
That was till one Saturday night, I was on my way out to meet some friends. The radio was on Jazz Club and a dj named Alan Dell did a special on some guy called Charlie Parker. I was late meeting my friends , I had found real jazz.
Just been listening to a compilation on Youtube......heaven!

Does anyone remember The Wood Green Jazz Club. At the hall at the back of the Nightingale pub.
It was run by Art Saunders and his wife.Back in the 50 s.
I saw Chris Barber, Kenny Ball, Lonnie Donnegan, Acker Bilk and many more.
Great times for 2 shillings entry
