There is good news from my friend in Somerset. A man from the environment agency called by yesterday. He has said that he can move the cattle back as the ater is going down. It is only half way up the ducks...........

So far all I have done is cancel my Doctor's appointment in Datchet! I don't even possess water-proof footwear...
The Royal Regt. of Fusiliers turned up yesterday, with their red and white hackles... plus a lot of heavy vehicles. The Police, Fire and Rescue and others are extremely busy - river levels stabilized yesterday, but for how long we don't know. There was even one of those yellow Duck things they use for Thames sight-seeing trips, on a lorry stuck briefly outside my place, waiting for room to move - people have moved their cars to my road, parking them along both sides which doesn't help the flow. The George, just along the road, is offering free coffee and afternoon tea to the damp and dispirited.
I have not yet heard the phrase 'spirit of the Blitz' but that too is probably only a matter of time...
Happy Darwin Day!

Blitz I have not heard, but the Dunkirk Spirit (whatever that means) was on radio a few moments ago.
Good luck Scorp. Right now the wind is incessant, with loud bangs and crashes as large industrial wheelie bins and even pallets are blown across the yard.
Later i will nervously take a look at my roof at home. The workshop at home is minus a fair bit of felt but I have managed to stick a few rocks on the loose stuff Provence style until we get a dry warm spell. Probably November the way things are going. At the moment it is still dry.

Everybody OK this morning?
Seems like the Taffys were worst hit last night.

Yep, so far so good. I checked roofs and outhouses this morning and all is well, but there are entire fences and even walls down as well as a few trees.
Mr plod was in attendance just down the lane last night guarding a fallen tree in case some blind driver could not see it.

Here in Wraysbury, my part at least, there has been a slight improvement overnight - it was looking a bit dicey yesterday evening, but the water had receded from out front here and we have our 'normal' large roadside puddles - we're used to those!

You were featured on the news last night. With your local counsellor looking really busy down the old town hall. I found this old photograph of Eton...........er

That mode of transport had many advantages Arena.
If you got water up the exhaust all you heard was bubbling
And on dry land if it stopped you could light a fire under it
On lunchtime news we were told that guest houses in places like Minehead were 25% down on bookings for the half term next week because people thought that the whole of Somerset was under water.

According to the medja it is.... Their constant pictures of sorts standing in water and warbling on about Dunkirk spirits would frighten anyone off. They do the same in Northern Ireland,Afghanistan, Iraq et al. People are given the impression that the whole country is 'war-torn'. Meanwhile Dithering Dave is swiftly back-tracking on his 'Money is no object' speech ( What he meant was 'They'll get no amount of money' On the news this morning he has refined his 'promise' to " Now let me make the position perfectly clear. There are rumours that people will have to pay for the sandbags. That's not true. There are rumours that householders will have to pay for the troops employed. That I categorically deny" www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26185886

Arena,
I think we are all starting to suffer from information overload. but, it is unrelenting and we have heavy rain right now with high winds. it is also bloody cold.
I get the impression that you are not too well disposed to Cameron! But (and I am not defending him) in all fairness, the wettest winter for 250 years? He can't stop it raining.
My main beef with ALL governments it is always too little too late.
As for the environment agency, I think last year they spent £600 million on salaries, £20 million on river dredging and other schemes, oh and £31 million on bird protection. Obviously got their priorities in order.
I have not dared ring my farmer friend in Somerset the last few days......

The difference between Cameron and I.............what I write/say is genuine not to make me look better. Yes, I dislike him intensly but as someone who has not voted in the UK for 25 years, it is not party based.
I hope your farmer friend gets a HUGE share of the reported 1 million pounds set aside for farmers in distress.
