If you have that much saved up, Rikii, you should put it in an offshore account - Rees Mogg can advise. Hi tickle , we get only one thousand pounds free from tax, if your overall tax allowance is £1250 per annum you will have to pay tax on any more than that one thousand in your bank accounts our is 2,000 allowance as it is a joint account, until recently our bank A/C was only making just over I% in interest, this year we have been getting about 5% hence more interest more tax. Now every one who has savings or a dual pensions will receive a tax bill courtesy of HMRC.? ( Err I am not 100% au fait with this.)

Wow, how we manage to get through life with so many irritants is amazing. People who say, "My bad" and "sicth" instead of sixth.

Trying to get spam out of an oblong tin with rounded corners. (yesterday I opened the tin, removed the lid and was bashing the bottom of the can with the smooth end of our stainless steel meat hammer.)

People who give you their seat on a bus or tube. I mean, it's lovely - it just annoys me that I look like I need it...

The footwear I am now resigned to wearing. If the shoe fits, it's ugly.

As a child I was a very fussy eater, which proved a problem when we had a family holiday in the fair city town of Scarborough. We were staying at a B&B so had to eat out in the evening and must have spent a good while looking at menus to see if there was anything I would eat. In the end, as I recall, we ate nearly every evening at Eve's Cafe, which served the most wonderful spam fritters. Just for old time's sake, about a year ago I bought some spam fritters from Iceland, to eat while Mrs Tickle was away visiting her cousin. They were, I'm afraid, a great disappointment.

If you have more than that you could avoid tax by making use of your ISA allowances. I wasn't aware of it, but have just discovered that in addition to the personal savings allowance there is something called the starting rate for savings. As far as I can understand it, if your other income is below £17,570 no tax is due on any interest that doesn't take your overall income above that figure, subject to a maximum of £5k - www.gov.uk/apply-tax-free-interest-on-savings#:~:text=You%20may%20also%20get%20up,rate%20for%20savings%20will%20be. Of course, if you really want to avoid paying tax on your interest, there are plenty of accounts around that still pay 1%.
