Romanian women are celebrated twice a year, in March.
March 1st is Marțişorul, a celebration of love. The ladies are given a specific trinket tied with a red and white braided cord, symbolizing life and purity. Also, they receive flowers and jewelry, according to the budget, from their loved ones. On the 8th of March it used to be Mother's Day . The children celebrated at school and offered gifts and cards, made by them with a lot of care and dedication.
Since not all women can be mothers, the holiday was extended to all women, ladies and unmarried. They receive many flowers, gifts or outings to restaurants and a lot of attention from their partners and loved ones. That's how it is with us.
What gift should I give you now that it's spring?
What gift should I give you now that it's spring?
From the clouds I sew you a light dress.
I'm making a belt for you out of snowdrops.
I put a string of lilies around your neck.
I put you in wild violets shoes.
To be the most beautiful in town.
Do you also want bracelets ? Oh, and earrings, too?
I'll make you a complete set out of corydalis cava.
And that's it! I don't have anymore, you know
I spent about three meadows with you!
Do you still want peace, joy and health?
I don't have any of these. Everything belongs to God!
And then with love I would kneel and pray to Him to give them to you!
(poem written by Magda Isanos
translated by me. Sadly , much beauty of the poem is lost in translation )

Hi Lily X Today is Mother's Day in the UK. I went to Mass thus morning and we had special prayers for our mothers - alive, or passed away, and all the mother-figures in our lives. It was lovely to remember them. The priest had a great basket of flowers and all the children were invited to come up and take one to give to their mother. A nice touch.
I got a video call from both my sons - it was wonderful to see the little grandchildren. I asked them not to send cards or flowers - it's all a con!

We celebrate Easter on May 5, 2024! An anomaly I cannot understand! Catholics and Orthodox are all Christians. However, the Lord's resurrection is celebrated on different dates. Who is right? Happy Easter to all !
