Doug Engelbart, the inventor of the computer mouse and developer of early incarnations of email, word processing programs and the Internet, has died at the age of 88. The Computer History Museum, where Engelbart had been a fellow since 2005, says he died early on Wednesday. He missed out on the patent and never got rich I'd be lost without him. Can't be done with laptop style surfing (bah humbug!)

Yes, we all owe him...
I agree - I have a little wireless mouse with my laptop - can't manage with the ghastly touch pad - never could. I tried with a Toshiba in the Nineties - no use at all.

I have a Microsoft cordless job...............fits nicely into the palm of my arthritic hand.
Just been round to my Algerian mates helping with his new 60" Samsung smart. I had to use the touchpad to set things up for him. The old digits are throbbing.

We used to enjoy his programmes. I always think of that Monty Python sketch now,
