A good friend of mine was taught by Tom Sharpe in his South African days... I can't remember how it was that I stumbled on Riotous Assembly and Indecent Exposure but I cerainly became in instant fan!
Porterhouse Blue was the perfect vehicle for David Jason, as Skullion and for Ian Richardson as the god-awful Sir Godber. Blott on the Landscape introdiced most of us to the wonderful David Suchet as Blott. And with Gerladine James, Simon Cadell and George Cole it was a magnificent cast all round.
But it was those first two novels that really hooked me...

Remember Konstabel Els, who fought a Doberman and won, by the simple tactic of biting its balls off? He spent the rest of the book trying to find someone who would stuff it for him as a trophy... Remember the ostriches fed with condoms full of plastic explosive that made them explode as they ran down the street? Barbara Pymm it wasn't...
