The other night I watched a programme that Dave Gorman has devised.I would not call him a comedian exactly, though he is entertaining and creative and funny. His new show "Terms and Conditions Apply" is very entertaining. He came up with examples of people mangling what should be well known expressions. One was the bear of bad news,eg. sorry to be the bear of bad news. Flaming yawn, which turned out to be fillet mignon. Escape goat, instead of scape goat. There were many more ,but I can't remember them.I really do despair of the younger generation.

Language has arrived where it is with the help of ignorance . People make language change very often by misuse. "You can't have your cake and eat it" for example doesn't make sense . It is a misuse of "You can't eat your cake and still have it" Like it or not it will go on happening.

"Appalling lack of knowledge" What about the Apprentice contestants who had no idea when the war started

I watched the Dave Gorman show again and noted a few more howlers. Mind bottling - mind boggling. It takes two to tangle, for two to tango. (I like this one.) Taken for granite - taken for granted. From the gecko - from the get go. And most mind boggling of all, a pack of lips - apocalypse.
