I love Christina, she has a smile to light up the world Social workers, on my experience they are useless When fostering we had a non stop procession of newly qualified young workers who hadn't got a clue. That was when we had young children fostered with us, and when we agreed to take on a 15 year old who's older brother was so jealous because he didn't have kindly foster parents when he was in care and made it plain that he would not rest until he broke this placement, the social worker virtually washed his hands of our lad. The only advice he could offer was to remove the boy to a childrens home And then when you read of workers failings and children dying the onoy excuses offered are "further training" A woman here was desperate for a baby, and following unsuccessful IVF she applied to foster or adopt. Turned down because she was "overweight" and her husband smoked. When Cameron's government introduced private adoption agencies, she applied, was accepted and is now the mother of that child and another one. Beautiful children

Social workers always seem to have excuses for when they don't do their job properly. I had a friend who went into social work when we were young. The stories she told me made me cry.

I had dealings with social workers as a headteacher - not one filled me with confidence! When you are dealing with vulnerable children the very least you expect is empathy and certainly professionalism. They always seemed to be looking for the easy option not the right one for the child.

People who work on the media should know how to conjugate , spell and pronounce but many can't.

People who work on the media should know how to conjugate , spell and pronounce but many can't. I doubt if the majority of the population know what they mean, but then does it matter. In these days of texting as the main way of communication I suppose that's all that matters is to exchange info

Ha!!
I really don't like text language though; I take a great (poncy) delight in writing texts out in full sentences, with clauses and sub clauses and digressions and whatnot; but then I don't write many of them, and none at for the past couple of years or so (my phone/card won't do them for some reason and I haven't got round to getting it fixed it yet).

Why bother? The important thing is to be able to communicate and exchange information At school I did "O" level German, French, and Latin. They all concentrated on the correct grammar as if we were going to write a book I had a French student stay with me, and took him to school where the French master was so excited to have a real French person present. Sadly they couldn't understand each other, so we had a quick lesson on regional variations. Why they didn't concentrate on conversational lessons was a shame

I agree with you Jimmy, that it is being able to communicate that is important, but I am like Aubs. I write texts with all correct punctuation etc. I guess I'm just an old dinosaur.

So called ‘professional’ social worker asked my sisters friend... ‘So, how long have you had Downs Syndrome?’ Christina Trevanion I feel a bit uncomfortable when things like that are re-quoted to show how dim some professionals are. They can’t respond to say they didn’t actually say that, or that it was quoted out of context; But even if one did, maybe just wading through standard questions to health matters, have some pity. Have we not all done or said stupid things when under pressure or dog-tired?
