THE FIRE
It started with scraps of Amazon packing, screwed by the children into rings Then a lettuce box, delightedly kung foo’ed to shards Carefully piled - then a match Jay thought it looked like the house on fire “Don’t tempt fate!” Mother chided in good part Now a log - Dad placed the great oak timber in the colourful flames The dry wood crackled and spat Soon the room felt its warmth Fingers and toes regained their life and the party began
The fire joined in the jollity It danced and ate the corks, wrappers and wooden skewers fed to it by the revellers Goodnights were said The once hearty blaze snuggled down with a warm satisfied glow Next morning it lay there quite still – grey , cold to the touch....spent Nothing lives forever...
