Crumpets are nice with marmite on them. (ducks to avoid incoming............) It's odd, I used to have a very sweet tooth, three sugars in a cup of coffee for example, but as I got older plus diabetes diagnosis my tastes changed and I now prefer a more savoury taste In my sweet tooth days I loved a marmite sandwich but now in my savoury days I hate the stuff

I remember years ago calling at my sisters place on my way home - with still 120 miles before home. I was very tired and not very well at the time. My sister was out but my nephew said 'you sit down uncle J and will make you a sandwich' I dozed off and was presented with a thick cut marmite sandwich and he had ladled the marmite on. I have always hated marmite!

I used to love Marmite until I had some at my mother's not long after the transplant. I used to throw up a lot a few years before then but always made it to the toilet and was usually so discreet about it that no one knew; this time I didn't even make it out of the front room. I've tried it since then, just to see if it was a one-off, and I couldn't finish it.

Today we had some mussels for lunch. In my youth my parents had their regular shell fish meal for Saturday teatime, mussels, cockles, winkles which I did not fancy so it was a boiled egg for me Today watching these cookery programmes awakened my taste buds, so we had some ready cooked just with bread and butter. OH being Flemish wants to have chips with them next time

I see TV chefs are advocating the use of lard. It was a no-no for a while.
