I have been trying to help someone complete their application for this new style of claiming benefits. What a nightmare, I suspect that this has been made deliberately difficult to deter people from applying You have to complete the application on line before whatever happens next, happens. The form is the usual government form of endless repetitive questions that require doggedness and determination to complete. Endless hiccups along the way but with perseverance one can get there, the response to proving identity claimed that the driving licence info did not match the DVLA, it did Thing fell apart however when we got to needing a smart phone or tablet, neither of which the applicant possessed. No problem was the response, borrow one from a friend. Sadly neither of us know anyone who has these So there we stick, what happens next - goodness knows

I've tried to help a few people with that ID check. If you don't have a driving licence or a passport it's a dead loss - I don't think I've ever been able to do it online.

What makes it worse is in this case it is the government who have forced this application. The applicant receives pension credit along with their OH but from May the rules change and only those of pensionable age can claim, the suggestion is to apply for UC instead I am emailing Ms Rudd, the DWP minister, to ask her if she has tried completing this process
