These shots are from my previous garden,Jimmy. It was about a third of an acre and had not been touched for 30 years when we moved there. It was full of briars and the ground was solid. It took me about five years to create a garden from it.

We left because the house and garden were getting too much for us and we lived out in the sticks. We moved to be nearer facilities like the bank, the doctors, the dentist and the shops. We live about 200 yards from our doctors' and we had no idea just how much time we would spend there. There are many reasons why I miss the old place, but it wasn't practical for us. Although OH had a ride-on mower which helped a lot,we had so many fruit trees that autumn was long hard days of wine making and cooking and freezing stuff.

Our very big garden used to be full of flower beds, vegetable beds, and bushes Since adopting the dogs they did not know that the beds were out of bounds, so we removed them all and grassed everywhere. It is now the dogs playground We have a magnolia tree which is mature now. Went to the Williams family nursery, they are world experts in magnolias, and bought this tiny shrub in a pot which he recommended. It was £60 and couldn't really say no as he had taken so much trouble. He explained that when flowering it would represent white birds sitting on the bare branches. That tree is still in the garden

That magnolia looks like magnolia stellata,Jimmy. Such a beauty. A flower that reminds me of my childhood -lupins.

Similar but it's a Williamsi, I think he bred it (does one breed a plant?) and named it after himself

That's common in the plant world. Most plants are named after the people who found them first. Come to think of it,it's quite common among diseases. Most of them are named after the person who first recognised the disease. I'd much rather have a plant, than a disease, named after me.

I love blue tits, nearly killed a neighbours cat found in our garden with a dead blue tit in it's mouth

Cats kill thousands of birds every year, but according to statistics they don't seriously damage the bird population. I'm not a fan of cats, though I know it's their natural instinct etc.
