Crazy but why the need to wind it by hand?

Powering it with electricity would be easy, but doing it all by hand shows everything that's gone into it, and gives the music a physicality that it wouldn't have otherwise; also, it's a throwback to old pipe organs, powered by some bloke pushing on a set of bellows; or the hurdy-gurdy, or anything like that, where the power comes from a human source (though I think here the bass guitar must have been plugged in somewhere).
You could easily do the same music on a free sequencing programme, but it wouldn't be as good.

Truly fascinating. I wonder how long it took to produce the 'instrument'? Many, many hours, perhaps years .
