I have had a busy morning. It's too cold to get out in the garden, or I would have been out there today. I have mixed myself a new nail polish. I wanted something slightly pink, but not pearly. I got my polishes out and mixed a tiny bit of dark pink with a nude one and I have the most lovely colour. Sort of just a tiny bit more pink than natural. I have thrown out the old red ones I still had knocking about. I have cleaned the grouting in the bathroom with a home made paste of bleach and bicarb soda and it has come up a treat. I have looked for something to put through the washer, but I can't find anything. groceries.asda.com/product/washing-machine-cleaners-limescale-protection/dettol-washing-machine-cleaner-lemon-breeze/910002954838

I meant I was looking for things that might need washing, but as I'm up to date with laundry, I couldn't find anything to wash. I use Calgon tablets periodically to keep the machine clean.

Good afternoon all. I popped to the shops to get a rubber "daisy" for my new watering can. The plastic one will not stay in place. I got my boots out again to go over to the shops because it is winter here. I hope the promised warm weather does appear. I have started watching Red Eye on ITV. I wasn't going to bother, as Richard Armitage has only two expressions. However, I am enjoying it. Edge of the seat stuff, but a bit derivative.

Yep, it is like winter at times, they have kept saying there's a mini heatwave on the way for weeks now. Maybe next week If we're lucky.

Morning all: We had an awful storm last night, the wind was howling and the rain lashing the windows. I'm hoping it's died down when I go out this morning.

Good morning folks. First off, that was a hilarious scenario with the oil slick Hildie - but blimey, with a naked flame involved as well, it got more scary than funny.π¬ Althea: the nail polish mix gave us a very good sign that you are ready once more for personal maintenance π
I have been away for a few days - we went to Krakow (it was hot π₯΅ and we'd only brought jumpers) Being the forum's resident Catholic, I was impressed by the fervour of the faith there. We went to Mass at a Dominican church and arrived about 15 minutes early, yet all the pews were almost filled π€ but by the time the service started the place was jammed. Lucky ones took folding chairs from racks and put them in all available spaces and the unlucky ones sat on ledges, steps and anywhere they could put their behind. Two priests, two deacons and a number of seminarians (student priests) took part. The singing was with gusto (no books) everyone knew everything...the organist was amazing and got applause after... SO many churches but whichever one you popped into, there were always people praying and every roadside shrine (a lot!) had fresh flowers. I know Poland is a Catholic country but I feel the faith is part and parcel of the nation's political solidarity, given their history. In one of the many lovely parks, there was a walkway with displays telling Poland's story of bravery and resistance. They are a very proud and united people. I am not keen on Polish food though... Dumplings are served everywhere - these are folded over, filled with meat and very strongly flavoured meat at that...then boiled. They love 'em. They are keen on deer (usually specified as either Roe or Red)duck and goose (a couple of restaurants just served goose dishes) and also popular is the liver of these creatures, made into a sort of strongly flavoured pate... We were served this at breakfast π¬ We went to the Opera which was stunning - our seats worked out at about 32 quid! We decided NOT to visit Auschwitz (despite several people telling us we owe it to those who perished there) I felt I couldn't learn anything more by visiting and I know I would be sorrowful for days. The other thing, I hear people don't show enough respect nowadays and take selfies etc which would upset me even more.

That's a lovely synopsis of Poland, maris. I hear Judith Chalmers job is going begging. I am reliably informed that it is 27 degrees in Berlin today. We, on the other hand have 12 degrees and wind and rain. I couldn't help it, I tried my hair it's natural colour - white, but have died it back to what people think is my natural colour - very light brown. White hair takes all the colour out of your complexion, while light brown is more forgiving. I feel more like myself today with light brown locks. We have many Poles in North Wales and I find them mostly, lovely people. Children in Wrexham schools are learning Polish as well as Welsh.

All my red hair has gone grey/white with only bits of dark brown here and there. I took the plunge and had it cut short and now leave it as a natural colour- mostly grey. I don't mind it at all.
It was getting so hard finding a red hair colour that looked remotely natural. I could've gone brown. I tried blonde for about a year but it just went yellow and I really didn't like it.
So I'm just natural now.

To us ex-redheads, I'd agree that to find a natural looking hair colour when you are mostly grey, is a very difficult thing. As Hildie observed, too many blonde shades are far too golden ie yellow. I have found L'OrΓ©al Excellence 'Universal Blonde' shades very good π

So many good signs Althea - very glad you're up and running again ..metaphorically - the rest comes next π€£ Why it should be so lovely in Eastern Europe while rain and freezing temperatures continue here is very puzzling.. Still got the heating on as well..
