It's interesting how expressions are misheard/misunderstood and so get changed, in time.
I heard a young girl saying 'When the chickens come home to roast'.
We had one in Fleet Street, when employees were able to leave before the end of a shift, it was 'early doors'. It now means ,at the earlier part of something.
You can't have your cake and eat it, doesn't make much sense but in it's original form, you can't eat your cake and still have it, it made sense.
Can you think of any others?
