Yes that's right, I am aware of how it's made and try not to think about that when I;m eating it. I guess there are lots of things we wouldn't eat If we stopped to think how it's made. This morning I noticed Tesco had chickens on sale at £3. When you think that Tesco must be making a good profit on each chicken sold that's not much of a price of each chickens life.

It's mass production, the more there are the cheaper they become

From John Aubrey's "Minutes of Lives" (also known as "Aubrey's Brief Lives"): OMG That is truly disgusting, how could they? It was a period of curiosity. Also, they weren't anything like as squeamish as we are: one way of testing whether someone had been murdered by poison was to taste the contents of the corpse's stomach: and you don't want to know how doctors made some of their diagnoses (Rabelais was a doctor, and some of that came out in his writings).

Thank you for that Aubrey, as you say , it was an age of curiosity and their knowledge limited. And you are right, I do not want to know how doctors made some of their diagnoses. Unlike them, I am afraid I am rather squeamish.

Anybody nostalgic about food we no longer have these days I have a yearning for the chunky bread and dripping we had years ago, especially the brown stuff at the bottom of the dish

Mum used to give us dripping on toast, whenever we was ill it would be bread with sugar and hot milk.

Have just watched Gloria Hunniford telling me that two sausages and pieces of bacon are a cancer risk, so much for the mixed grill we had last night. Along with this soya beans can lower testosterone in men and make our boobies grow

Am not usually influenced by adverts but the one for Morrisons steak pies (the sailor? coming home to Nan) caught my fancy so gave them a try. Wonderful, quite well filled with chunks of steak and a nice light pastry. The steak and kidney ones are as nice

Anyone remember "T" bone steaks Once owned a house on a large modern estate where there was a steak house in the parade of shops, and it was a treat to have a T bone with grilled tomatoes I suspect that they disappeared following the BSE crisis

Cous cous. Goat cheese.Lots of other stuff really, that I can't think of at the moment.
But Brussels sprouts are the food of the gods. 😛

My daughter tried to convert me to couscous, she turned up with it in all sorts of flavours She admitted defeat when I announced that I preferred it as semolina

IMO, Cous cous is so delicious when black olives and spring onions are incorporated into it. Chicken Kievs are horrid. And I don't like Cauliflower Cheese or Macaroni Cheese.
