Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you think in fractions.
"How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're never thirty-six and a half. You're four and a half, going on five!
That's the key.
You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.
"How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna be 16! And then the greatest day of your life; you become 21. Even the words sound like a ceremony . . . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!
But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like bad milk! . He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're just a sour-dumpling. What's wrong? What's changed?
You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40.
Whoa! Put on the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50 and your dreams are gone.
But wait! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!
So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.
You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day thing; you HIT Wednesday!
You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime.
And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you start going backwards; "I Was JUST 92."
Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again. "I'm 100 and a half!"
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!

If someone who is 20 marries another who is forty, there are raised eyebrows. If someone of 70 marries someone of ninety nothing but smiles.

True, there is somewhat of differing opinions here. A man of say 50 marrying a 20 year old woman is frowned upon, yet a woman of 50 marrying a 20 year old man is ok. Not that I have an opinion on any of these, it just makes me wonder when I see Rupert Murdoch, Donald Trump, Mick Jagger and Hugh Hefner. All married to women half their ages. Could it be anything to do with their bank balances?

Any woman who marries a man for his money - earns it. In my case,I was the one with the money,Mr A had no savings at the time. Since then he has been the provider and done a jolly good job of it. He has a lot of savings now. I have seen to that. I am a saver.

Rondetto, your post reminds me of my Uncle Dan. He was a wonderful man who lived an active life until he died aged 93. We used to go and stay with him a couple of times a year and I would bake for two days solid and fill his freezer with home made meals, scones and cakes. He looked years younger than his age and he was a good looking man. It was embarrassing going shopping with him because he would say to sales assistants,"Guess how old I am." He loved their shock and amazement when he divulged his age.Oh bless him,I do miss him.

Any woman who marries a man for his money - earns it. I like that expression! I don't think an age gap makes any difference to the couple, just to others. For many years my companion was a lass 18 years younger than I was. After a couple of months it was never anything I thought about, and I don't think she did either. However sometimes others who did not know us would make some comment. I would reply that she worked for 'Help the Aged' and was helping me to get around.

Apart from aches etc. I'm pretty certain all of us feels just the same as we did in our 20s/30s and I feel quite irritated that other people might look at me and think...'old'
My aunt lived alone (she was 87) and I can recall taking her to the GP once and he was trying to persuade her to attend a day centre when she said "What? and spend all day with all those old people" - to her, on the inside, she wasn't - and we're not either... Its the outside image let's us down!
I recall a joke from Roy Walker: Wife says to her husband on her 75th birthday - "75!! I don't look it do I? " Husband replies "No. But you used to" ššš

I've turned 70 today and I tell my daughters I have joined the old codgers club now. But age is just a number, I still feel as if I'm in my forties.

I still feel like a teenager.I feel like I'm just beginning to get the hang of things. I know I should be wearing sensible shoes and I do buy them sometimes.I don't wear them though,I just can't bring myself to put them on. Now it's more important than ever that I don't fall over,I must start clearing out my high heels and start wearing sturdy ones.

Thank you very much, I'm not doing anything special today. I still dress younger than my age too. Prefer jeans and baseball cap when out. The only thing I can't take to that a lot of the young guys do these days is to go around unshaven. That's not the way we older ones were brought up. If my parents or grandparents saw me unshaven I would get a clout at any age.

AW bless, how nice to have that sung to me. Yes there comes a time when high heels becomes a danger to you ladies. I'm sat outside Starbucks of a morning and the number I've seen of ladies of a certain age hunched over trying to walk in the most ridiculous of high heels. It's been a nice but very tiring day, so off for an early night.
