Quoted-
Yes, there are Middle Eastern countries where the veils are required by law (namely Iran and Saudi Arabia) and combined those countries have less than 5 percent of the world's Muslims. There are actually more Muslim countries that outright ban the wearing of the veils than there are that require them. They can do that because wearing a veil is not required in Islam but is more of a custom, depending on where you live and who's in charge.

Very interesting, but we are talking veil, i.e. face covering other than the eyes, and not Hijab or the variations of the Hijab I assume?

In the UK veils were mainly worn at church functions, weddings and funerals for example Who can forget the three queens, heavily veiled, waiting for George V1 coffin to arrive at the railway station

I don't know what you are trying to say Jonjel but a hijab is a scarf! A Hijab is not a scarf Arena but the OP specifically referred to Islam. I grant the Hijab is the whole dress, but I assumed I was referring to Muslim female dress code and was trying to draw a distinction between face covering and what is widely perceived as pretty normal female attire. I was trying to get the specifics of the OP statement.

An iconic picture.
