Just heard that some French news agencies have decided in future not to show pictures or publish names of perpetrators of attacks. Hmmm...there is some merit in that.

I can only see a couple of hopes in all of this 1. These murderers are always killed themselves so are taken out of any more atrocities, ok I know there are others who will follow their example but they are a finite number 2. Thinking back to the end of last century, N Ireland was bombs and shooting every day and we despaired of them every settling down yet now it is mainly a peaceful country So there is hope You simply can't compare the current situation with IS or whatever manifestation it will adopt with Ireland, or indeed most other terror organisations. If you take Eoka, Mau-Mau the Stern gang and the IRA as just a very small sample of terror organisations they all had a political aim, and their methods to try and achieve it were abhorrent. However IS has no political aims, other than a caliphate encompassing the entire world. And despite my comparison as far as I know none of the terror groups I have named placed a mother and her two year old child in a cage and set light to them. The N Ireland terrorists of both camps did some pretty atrocious things as did many others

I believe beheading and burning alive were two of the preferred methods of execution used by the prophet - hence this emulation. I also feel we're just trying to soothe ourselves by trotting out...he was a psychopath..he was on drugs...he was disaffected - in the vain hope that these are one off occurrences. The other thing we hear all the time is that their actions 'have nothing to do with Islam' but this is the view given by moderate cultural Moslems...which we might think of as the gold standard...but the fighters would doubtless call those people infidels, the same as us! These are men with extreme ideals and we will never comprehend their fervour. It really bothers me that Islam is in the ascendancy with the young being the more hard line and I can see this increasing. For example, the full veil wearers you see are young women, certainly round here. Moslems seek tolerance...but only where they are in the minority. Where they are in the majority they are completely intolerant. The Pope and the Archbishop of Canterbury have condemned the slaying of this priest, are the Muslim leaders keeping quiet - I haven't heard anything from them

So were some vile and barbaric methods used in the Western world, but it doesn't make them OK

Did they murder that child in the name of some religion or faith? You will have cruelty and wicked people doing wicked things forever, but we were talking terrorism. The word gives a clue, to terrorise.

Heartbreaking to think but death is probably a blessed relief for all the poor little mites who undergo horrific treatment at the hands of monsters like those two..
